Starlight Glimmer always seemed to have negative luck with the throws and tosses she has always been handed. The cards she was dealt always seemed to be rigged in the favor of her fall. Her beginning had been rough in the cutie mark department. It took her longer than other foals to get her’s. Which lead to ponies thinking something was wrong with her and one after another, lead to ponies leaving her behind. Every friend she made would leave her because of that dumb mark she lacked. She brought ponies to her to take them down, but Twilight and friends destroyed what she had made. She lost her one constant that where she actually felt in control. Even when those ponies in her town allowed her back to them, she still saw their stand-offish-ness about her. She nearly destroyed timelines just so she could take Twilight with her. She left her own family in the dust because of her bitterness. Sure, she had found true friendship from Twilight and the rest of the mane six as well as having the pleasure of most ponies blissfully unaware of what had happened. Though Starlight could never shake the feelings she had. 

    During this time, a unicorn was found wandering the outside of the Crystal Empire. A unicorn that lacked his full horn. Not necessarily broken, but it wasn’t whole. He was brought into the Crystal palace by guards, only for it to be recognized as Sombra. A weak, tired, and clearly uninterested Sombra. He was put into the prison in the palace while Cadance called upon the day and night princess’. Which lead to Sombra being thrown into a true dungeon by Luna, the heiress to the night and the main pony in charge of stuff like this. Word got to Twilight and friends about this. Ponies were all about redemption and second chances: what made Sombra exempt? The ponies explained to Luna he could be redeemed. Luna, at first, had no interest. But hesitantly allowed it, though made it clear he must be under a watchful eye. Starlight volunteered, which was at first met with a stern “no” from Luna. Luna has always made it clear she didn’t exactly LIKE Starlight. After knowing everything she had done. Another knock off Starlight’s getting better and guilt.

    Then Twilight suggested she would be around while Starlight helped. Which lead to Luna being more comfortable with the idea. Clearly having more trust in Twilight than Starlight. She then gave the okay, and now the two purple mares were face-to-face with the previous shadow king. He clearly looked tired still and even weak. He seemed to have a look in his eyes Starlight sympathized with. Sure, she was not nearly as bad as Sombra. At least she tells herself that who knows that’s on you to decide. But both had made huge, bad, regrettable mistakes in their past. She saw that in him. It looked as if he had lost everything important to him. Much how she felt inside herself. She found herself spending a good chunk of time with the shadow king. Often being by his side, following the rule of keeping a watchful eye on him. But she was also curious. This was a way to learn more about him and even some things about the lost culture of the crystal ponies. And he seemed more than eager to tell her about it. Also eager to tell her about his past before he had become the shadow king. Starlight wanted to give him someone to confide in, much how Twilight did for her. The two became close friends, closer than Twilight would have imagined. 

    It was clear Sombra had reformed, though still played with the idea of evil stuff. More so telling how he is now in a world with candy colored ponies when he used to be a strong and ruthless king. But nothing more than that really. News was sent to Luna about it all and how much more friendly and warm the shadow king was now. Starlight at one point tried to help him with his magic. After all, his horn isn’t necessarily broken as it is cut in half. Maybe magic was still an option for him? To her, and others, sheer surprise, he could use magic just fine. Though with some small ounce of difficulty at first. But with the help of the purple candy coated unicorn mare, he was using it without much issue. Time continued to pass and the two of them only hung around each other more and more. Which was not expected. It was assumed that they grew so close so quickly because the two shared similarities. Both had lost things important to them, made regrettable mistakes that continues to follow them. As time continued to draw, the two only became infatuated with the other. Starlight being new to the whole scene didn’t really fully pick up the subtle hints he dropped. Nor did she think she would get his attention in that way. Or though she even SHOULD be in a relationship like that. Though once he bluntly told her how he felt, rather casually might I add, which lead to her spitting out what she was drinking. “What?” He calmly said, seeming unphased by what she just did. 

    She made it clear to him how she saw herself as unfit. Not even seeing herself as good enough at friendship without messing up in someway or another. How could she be trusted in something like a relationship? He made it clear to her that he saw her as more than capable to handle one and if she choose to go against it or wait, he was willing to wait for her. After all, patience was something she needed. Sombra wanted her to know that she was more than perfect. Telling her she is a very good friend and whatever ailed her now was not who she was today. So waiting had began. At least, until Starlight felt she could handle being in a relationship. And he remained patient with her. Soon, Starlight came back up to him and asked him out on a date. After that, the two have been together.

I wanted to try to write up a story and everything for the two as I want to get more into writing stuff. I know its not that great but I’m rather fond of what I put on the table. 

As for where this ship came from, I have no idea. It kind of just occurred to me, and I kind of grew fond of it- now its a thing
