Midnight Family tree

Midnight had to make a family tree for a project at school! (i.e. drawing Rubberhose made me want to elaborate on the whole lineage!)

SO. RubberHose met his eventual wife while he was serving in the armed forces. It was a whirlwind romance, and they married while they were still teens. For the most part they had a picturesque marriage, but when Darling was born, Rubba panicked, got cold hooves, and disappeared for a while. It's something he's always regretted doing, but eventually he came back and vowed never to leave again. He's a better pony for it, and he's been a devoted husband and father since.

On the other end of the spectrum, HAVE EVER MENTIONED THAT SWEETHEART'S PARENTS WERE MOB PONIES!? At least her Daddy was. Sweethearts parents are actually both stallions, who conceived via the aide of unicorn magic. But the beginning of their romance was rocky. Her daddy, Dark Sky, was set to become a kingpin gangster, moving illegal substances and trampling ponies with motormouths. He met Lackluster, a demure treasure hunter, during an, uh... altercation. Lackluster was a prisoner for a while, but eventually the two fell in love, and Dark Sky was faced with the decision to maintain his illegal regime, or elope and never be able to return to his home. Eventually, he chose Lackluster over power. The two spent many years running from Dark Sky's former comrades, and conceived Sweetheart in their later years, after they'd settled down.

Darling grew up with Rubba and Sweetcheeks, who were loving but somewhat distant parents. Rubba, having grown up in a different time, never quite understood why his son, a colt, was so set on dressmaking. But despite his hesitance, he encouraged him.Sweetcheeks was never cold or cruel to her son, but they never really connected very well. Sweetcheeks has passed on since.

On the other hand, Sweetheart grew up with her Papa and Daddy, Lackluster and Dark Sky, who were both very involved, passionate, and fiercely protective parents. Dark Sky has never approved of Darling or his profession, but the truth is that Sweetheart is his precious little baby girl and no one would ever be good enough. On a certain level he realizes this, and so he goes easier on the guy. But he constantly worries that Darling won't be strong enough to protect Sweetheart and Midnight from potential dangers.
Dark Sky is absolutely mad about Midnight, and frequently pesters Sweetheart to let him take his grandcolt on as an apprentice.

Lackluster is still around, but has gone mostly deaf and mostly blind. He has to rely very heavily on Dark Sky these days, but he doesn't seem to mind.

Darling and Sweetheart met during through their work, often crossing paths in the wedding industry. Darling believed in love at first sight, and was smitten quickly. Sweetheart, on the other hand, believed that love was something built, purposeful, and cultivated. Despite their differences they clicked well, and rather than falling hard and fast, their affection moved like a slow dance, circling, graceful, growing closer and deeper slowly and naturally. They were very eager to start a family, and both were overjoyed when Midnight was born. They have lately been considering adopting a second child.

Midnight is still figuring out his place in the world. He gets frequent visits from his comedian grandpa, Rubba, as well as his frightening Pappy, Dark Sky. Each of them seem to nudge him down opposing paths, while his parents just want to focus on him finding love. Midnight just wants to focus on being a kid...
