This takes place prior to the start of my Valourverse headcanon, timeline unknown.

Not long after leaving his mom’s undersea home, Valour Flame made his way to the surface and headed onto the shore of Mount Aris, where he headed for his father’s home nestled next to the beachfront. Valour’s father, Skydraft, was a lavender & periwinkle Hippogriff with a multicolored blue feathery mane and tail. Skydraft had just taken off his armor when he looked out the window & spotted Valour coming from the ocean. He then opened his window and called out to his son. “Hey Valour! Long time no see!”, yelled Skydraft. Valour’s reply was, “Same to you too dad!”

After Valour took his Hippogriff form, he headed for his father’s home & went inside. There he and his father welcomed each other with a warm embraced by virtue of a hug. They set they’re necklaces onto the table and headed back outside. They both spoke for what seemed like hours, how his dad was doing in the reserves, Valour’s little discoveries (though Val tried to keep the Hippocampus details to himself, yet his old man knew about it), and how both Sonata Jewel and Valour’s little sister Harmony Wind were. Seemed like good times for the father-son duo, until…

“So I heard you were going to the mainland huh?”, Skydraft said.

“Well…yeah. I mean, going to visit the realm of Equestria is a wondrous opportunity. I know the Ponies there value friendship, and…well, I like to establish some friendships there. I mean, sure I can do it here, but-.” Valour was cut off all of a sudden by his dad putting his left claw right up towards Valour’s face.

“And you came here inspecting me to approve?”

“Well, mom did, and…well, I know you, that is…would be willing to approve of me doing so as well?” Valour looked on toward his father. Skydraft’s demeanor ever so shifting.

Skydraft looked at his helmet and said, “Did I ever tell you about the time I went to Equestria?”

“No. You haven’t.”

Skydraft looked up at the sky, seeing the clouds go by as well as a pair of flying Hippogriffs. Then, he looked towards the sea where a couple of little Seaponies were playing. “It was a diplomatic mission for Queen Novo to the Crystal Empire. I went along with Sky Beak and Seaspray where we were to meet up with Princess Celestia’s niece, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza.”

“Funny, I thought her name was Cadence.”, Valour Flame said. His dad seemingly cleared his throat and said, “Well, she goes by Cadence for short, but that is her full name. Anyway, while Sky Beak & Seaspray spoke to the princess, I had the chance to meet her husband and former leader of Princess Celestia’s Royal Guard Shining Armor. He showed me around the Crystal Empire without me even asking. Seeing the Crystal Ponies there was…something.” Valour looked on as his father continued. “Having heard of the horrid tale that befallen the denizens there thanks to King Sombra, it hit me in the heart. But, hearing about the exploits of how Shining Armor’s sister and her friends help stop him, it helped me to strengthen my resolve of staying the the Reserves.”

“So…what does this have to do with me getting your approval?”, Valour said. His father put his claw on Valour’s head. “You want to go to Equestria and establish friendships there and make discoveries, yet you’re to impatient to get my approval.”

“But dad, it really means for me to go there and,-” Skydraft muffled Valour’s beak. “And you’ll need to wait a bit son. Now tell me, why was it that what Shining Armor told me hit me in the heart?” Due to his beak being muffled, Valour couldn’t give Skydraft a cleared answer. “It was because of how he mistreated them. He ruled them with an iron hoof and never thought of they’re well being. Thanks to the exploits of Princess Twilight and her friends, the Crystal Ponies can thrive again.”

With his beak unmuffled, Valour asks, “I still don’t get it. Sure Sombra did bad, but what does this have to do with me gaining your approval dad?”

Skydraft pokes Valour’s beak. “Discoveries you little dork!”, Skydraft said with a chuckle.

“Oh come on dad! Mom already made me admit to being her little dork!”

“And you’re my little dork too. But as I said, the story Shining Armor told made help me to make my own discovery, a discovery of self-awareness.”

“A discovery of self-awareness?”, Valour asked, being all curious.

“Yes. Hearing it made me to discover who I am, to question my own character, to make me become conscious of myself, to strengthen my feelings, motives & desires. That alone is what made me stay in the Reserves & molded me into the Hippogriff you see before you today.”

“So…dad discovered himself along just that one trip to the Crystal Empire?”, Valour thought to himself as he looked at his claws. THen he clutches them “Maybe…maybe I can find out who I am myself. Maybe, maybe I should go after my own self-awareness & discover who I am!”

“So…you finally figured it out?”, Skydraft asked his son and getting a nod from him. “Then, you got my approval.”

“R-really? T-thanks dad! I’ll head straight for Equestria right thi-.”, Just as Valour takes off a few feet from the ground, Skydraft grabs him by the tail feathers. “I wasn’t done my eager little fledgling. You got my approval, but you’ll get it after the weekend.”

As if hit by a brick wall, Valour was mortified. “W-w-w-whaaaat?! T-this weekend! But dad, how can I make my discoveries if I have to stay the weekend?”

“Now son, Equestria will still be there before you go. After all, its not Tuesday.”, Skydraft laughs. Valour begins to sulk as his dad continues. “Besides, I got the all clear to have the weekend off, and I wish to spend time with the family down in Seaquestria.”

“But does it have to be this weekend?”, Valour asks.

“Think of it like this. Your first discovery will be the Discovery of Patience.”, Skydraft jokes, though Valour wasn’t laughing. “Besides, Harmony would miss her big brother. And you are the man of the house while I’m away. I just…I just want to spend time with you all.” Valour looks at his dad. “I see. Dad really cherishes us.”

Valour stops with the sulk act. “Well, I don’t have to go immediately, so I guess I can stay for the weekend.” He notices his dad smiling. “Although…I guess you were going to approve of me no matter the reason.”

“Hm. I guess you saw right through me son.”

“Yeah, pretty much. But in all seriousness, thanks dad.” Valour gave him a hug.

“Well, here’s hoping you’ll embrace your discoveries as well as you embrace your future friendships. And once you discovery who you are, your future will be set.”, Skydraft said.

“Do you have to be so cryptic when you say stuff like that dad?”

“Yeah. Pretty much.”, Skydraft says with a chuckle.

So wraps up part 2. I don’t remember what the Hippogriffs/Seaponies call they’re variation of the Royal Guard, but I think it has something to do with the Navy. I included Seaspray’s name since I remember someone mentioned his background of being a General (not sure if true or not) and I’ve seen pics of Sky Beak in armor, making me believe he’s part of the Hippogriffs’ guard too. Your free to correct me on this if you like, but since this does take place before the start of my Valourverse headcanon, any info is good…yeah, I really need to catch up on the MLP season & the film soon…oh, and part 3 onward I will be drawing myself.
