I had this posted on my tumblr and I originally wasn’t going to post it up here, buuuuuut I was like “HA WHATEVAH” and decided to post it anyhow. o3oSo a while back, when I first uploaded my headcanon for the Seaponies, I remember AmrasFelagund asking me about King Leo, a sea lion whom was their king in the comics. I didn’t know who King Leo was so I looked him up and sure enough, there he was. Truth be told, while his initial concept was kinda cool I personally can’t get into it. He’s a “sea lion” but he doesn’t really look like a sea-based lion, or an actual a sea lion. He looks like a fish with a vaguely cat-like head thrown on. It’s not bad, but at the same time I don’t really care that much for it personally.
So of course I’m gonna go with something else for my own headcanon. So this little thing is dedicated to that question you asked me a while ago, amras. :3
Here we have my version of King Leo: very noticeably a lion but with some water-based aspects to him. Instead of a seal or sea lion, I decided to try and merge the anatomy of a cat and otter because I really like otters and they make me think of swimming cats. So his top half is mostly cat, and his bottom half is mostly otter, with the exception of the tail of course. So yeah; I suppose this is how the sea lion species will look in my headcanon. He can also breath underwater, just in case you’re wondering.
He’s an older fellow, a bit past his prime but he still has the moves of a sea lion half his age. He’s the honorary uncle of Celestia and Luna (it says cousin but honestly, uncle seems to fit him better in my opinion), and of course the well-beloved King of Aquastria. His rule has been long and prosperous, and while he still has quite a few years under his belt left he’s thinking about a heir (he’s asexual and has no mate. The next in line could either be his younger brother, his brother’s daughter, or an apprentice if he takes one under his wing).
Despite his old age, he’s no slouch; he’s known as the King of the Sea for a reason (despite there being different kingdoms under the sea but that’s another story). I think Leo would have a powerful influence over the oceans he commands, so much so that he perhaps has the power to cause miniature typhoons, huge waves, and large whirlpools if he so desired. He’s not the cause of natural disasters, but he can recreate them to an extent.
Sooo yeah, just a little and quick sketchdoodlydoodle I did. You’ll have to forgive me; a lot of this was off the top of my head so it isn’t as fleshed out as I’d like yet. I’ll work on the headcanon for this eventually though. If you have any questions, though, feel more than free to ask! :3
