Poetic Justice took another sordid sip of his wine as the chatter of his cousin rang in his ears. She always got too close and would absentmindedly pat his mane anytime she made a point. Across from him sat a surly, monochrome pegasus who had on the same grin he had when they first arrived. Flurry Heart brought him along to this party her brother was the patronage of, much to Poet’s dissatisfaction. She was close friends with Risky Gambit; a skateboarding, foul mouthed rock n’ roll band member who always got on his nerves… Those perpetually hooded eyes, long snout-with-a-too-long smile, irked him, in a way. They've had to be around each other a lot as kids since they mothers were close friends, but as an adult Poet tried to distance himself from most of the Mane Six's children.
The nerve!
It did not help that he was best friends with Johnny Gold, another pony who always got on Poet’s unpleasant side. Poet expected it just to be him and Flurry Heart, as a celebration for her homecoming from battle. The party was supposed to be just family but ended up with others inviting their friends and acquaintances. Tsh. Not like Pomegranate Love would do anything about it. He had the backbone of a river slug. If Poet took a shot anytime someone came up stammering towards the natural born alicorn princess he’d be a corpse.
“W-Wait - I think he meant he-? Oh. H-HIC.” Flurry Heart let out a snort and coughed. Hiccuping into a dainty hoof again, she coughed once more, hitting her cousin’s head. Poet felt a pout tug the corners of his mouth. “I’ve forgotten, heh. Lemme get back to that part in a sec, yeah?” Flurry took another swing at the bottle that sat between them, the purple contents sloshing within the expensive glass.
“Sure thing, baby doll. Take your sweet time. We’re here all night.” Gambit’s baritone growl cut through noise as he rumbled towards the pink alicorn. No matter how loud it was within a room, his voice always carried. The guy never even raised his voice, let alone yelled unless he was vocalizing in his dreadful music group. It vibrated deep within Poet's chest.
“I want to make a toast to…to the Crystal Empire! To small victories, to the princesses…to love -”
“This is the third toast you’ve made, cousin.” Poet groaned. “Enough.”
“Justin…your cousin looks smokin' whenever she says what needs to be said. I degree a rule tonight – only smokin’ hot ponies get to speak. That includes Flurry and me. You -”
“Oh please! Do not flatter yourself, Risky Gambit.” Another sip of wine burned his throat. Poet was drinking too much.
“Ah ah ah! I wasn’t fiiiniiiiished boooooys.” Flurry said in a singsong voice. The prince rolled his eyes. Puffing up her chest, she swayed against Poet as she took a serious tone. At least one she assumed to be. “A lot has been done to keep the peace these past few years and I’m proud that I’ve been a part of keeping it. I got a lot of scars - physically and mentally, that make me who I am, and I couldn’t have been more full of pride.” Eyes glittering with unshed tears, the pink alicorn spread her enormous wings to embrace both stallions, knocking over a small table as she did. She reached out towards her friend and he took her hoof.
“Flurry-butt…” Gambit said innocently, his tongue finding it’s way out of the side of his mouth...which was anything but innocent. Anytime he did that it always reminded the prince of a dog. He even scratched him like a dog sometimes. He probably was one in a pony's skin. “So beautiful. So honest. So powerful.”
Flurry Heart giggled, cheeks turning more pink than they were, horn tip sparking. She laughed loudly and squished her cousin’s head. The pony beneath her fidgeted and felt uncomfortable.
I am so drunk. He thought as headless fluffle puffs danced in front of his eyes. A hoof was waved in front of his face and he had no clue who it belonged to.
He swore the other stallion’s eyes were not all the way on his cousin. Maybe? No. There was no room for making judgments like that. Poet had no time for guessing games, even when sozzled. He knew Gambit’s eyes did weird things. Like a reptile’s...a chameleon’s...a dragon’s.

He had better things than to wonder if an odd featured pegasus was eyeing his cutiemark instead of the gorgeous, and expectant alicorn next to him. Or if he was the one pouring Poet’s drinks without him having to ask… A small, almost dopey smile replaced the displeased grimace. Ah yes.
If the pegasus were to ask the question of whether or not they would go home together... he would think of the possibility of saying yes. Not like he really wanted to but the thought went through his head what felt like hundreds of times that night. Flurry Heart and Risky Gambit continued to chatter as the prince of Equestria listened like a good little pony, both oblivious to his swirling thoughts as periwinkle eyes flickered back and forth between the other stallion’s lips and grey body thick with muscle.

We haven't seen Risky Gambit in awhile, eh? And a first seen Flurry Heart! Flurry is friends with Risky and invited him to a small party she was throwing to get a biiiit drunk - the pegasus ends up flirting with the princess. Poetic Justice is not too pleased...but is the flirting is really aimed towards his cousin? Risky Gambit is best friends with Johnny Gold so who knows what he's up to? Poet thinks he's p sleezy (tongue rings! So uncouth to the prince). Flurry Heart is a gorgeous mare and is hard to ignore, though.
If anyone remembers I made a status about changing Risky's colors and I decided on the more monochrome theme. I feel Derpy's greys would override Rainbow's more colorful coat in this instance.

EDIT: dialogue....done! Not too happy about it but it's over with lol.
I was unsure about swerving into this territory but it's been awhile since introducing our main character and him having...feelings for another pony was never even hinted. Not in that way at least. Relationships need to be formed more, dammit! Poet is the kind of guy that doesn't crush on ponies, and prefers his job over relationships but having a little bit of the thought demons didn't hurt, right?
