I do think in general that the players should feel like they can ask the GM to help with actions, choices, and descriptions. A more competitive, adversarial dynamic puts up walls and forces the players to either become their own rules lawyer or flounder helplessly, while a cooperative table lets everyone get a chance to succeed at what they want to do.

That said, it's hard to resist the allure of an open-ended outcome...

Fluttershy: Oh! Um, actually... Is that fair to Discord? He didn't really get a chance, and he's a powerful being like Twilight is now...
DM: Y'know what, you're right; I didn't really think about that, sorry. What's the play here, old friend? Does Twilight have to struggle harder to get away from Tirek? Is it almost impossible?

Discord: <sigh> No, your instincts are correct here, as ever. I– Discord really thought he was safe. Twilight is under no such illusion.
Fluttershy: Okay. Just wanted to make sure.
