An encounter between the young Princess and King blossomed into a fleeting romance when Sombra became power hungry and closed off his kingdom, severing the ties to the outside world and Luna herself. Sombra didn’t yet know that Luna carried their child, and never came to know in the end—and the young Prince was hidden away in Canterlot, raised under the roof of the castle in guise of a royal guard as he grew. When Luna had followed a path close to Sombra’s own, Alyward was under the protection of his aunt, Princess Celestia, and it was not until Luna had returned did they eventually allow his secret to be known as an Alicorn and a Prince. 

Alyward is a stalwart defender of Equestria, and the head of the royal guard in Canterlot. He may have royal blood in his veins, but he’s more concerned of his peoples safety than leading a Kingdom of his own and splitting into a smaller flock.
