Description:
Clover gives Sunny a big hug, sighing. She knows what it’s like to be unwanted, unnecessary. A burden. And she hopes he understands that she cares.
“Ah, it’s alright ya little bugger. I got over it forever ago. Bastards didn’t understand my genius, that’s all.”
Clover wants to know what he did at the orphanage.
“I was a guidance counselor for the lil’ ones. I was also a bit of a shrink, too. Helped them work out their issues and put ‘em on the right path to getting their cutiemarks, starting their life, y’know, the works.”
Clover thinks it’s a bit funny how his mark represents the beginning of a new journey, and he’s the one who started her adventure.
“Eh, special talents are weird like that, huh? You never know what they’ll make you do. But I’m happy I brought you along, now that I think about it. Gets me out of the rain a bit longer, I suppose.”
Clover wants to know more about the Carnival of Ages. Immediately, Sunny perks up, and begins to go on about EVERYTHING, eyes lit with passion.
“Oh gosh, the Carnival is so much fun. The lights, the streamers, the parties… the wenches! The food, too, oh Gods. Did you know there’s a filly in Vanhoover who can grow an apple to taste like Pumpkin Pie? She brought those last year, and by the Gods, I couldn’t buy enough. The normal bar is transformed into a milk bar for the event, so fillies likes you can get in and drink with the grown ups. It’s funny, too, a lot of little colts think it’ll get them drunk, so they stumble around all night. There’s so much music, and dancing, all leading up to the day of the Carnival too. The biggest shows are on the day itself, but most of the celebration takes place leading up to it. And the masks on Carnival Eve; the whole event is to remember the past, and everypony puts on masks and costumes from times forgotten to celebrate what we once had, and to hope for more to come. Don’t get me started on the food! You know those apples I mentioned? Try THOSE baked into an apple pie. I’m pretty sure you’ll go into shock from the taste; better than bags of candy. Oh, and they give those out, too. It’s the biggest celebration all year, bigger than Hearthswarming! You’re gonna love it. Now, the main events take place in Central Vanhoover… the view there is so pretty, I don’t think I can describe it. There’s a massive clocktower right in the center of the city, it’s painted really well, too… Gods, I don’t think I can describe it all. But you have to see it. Those pegasus ponies have the best view of all, seriously, I wish I could fly just to get a gander of the town. But your best bet would probably be from the Crow’s nest, and that doesn’t do the town any glory.”
He sighs, frowning.
“But I get to miss it this year, because of that stupid fuckin’ book. My luck, right?”
Clover thinks about seeing this town herself. She went there once, when she was little, with her parents. But the memories are so foggy, she can’t remember more than a big clock tower, and she can’t even remember the face of it.
Clover has a general idea of what time it is; she believes that she’ll be arriving at the town bright and early at 6 AM. That’s around two hours from now. From the looks of things, the storm has died down quite a bit, but not entirely. She asks Sunny if it’s safe to go on deck, and he agrees that she can probably get away with it.
What should Clover do?
