Artist’s comment:First and foremost, I really don’t like gargoyle anatomy. It just looks wonky and weird for MLP. So I decided to switch the species out with Sphinxes.
Scorpan is very intelligent and cunning, good with politics and strategy like his mother, where his brother was good with power and magic. He prefers to settle things with words rather than fighting, though he is trained to fight and excels at aerial combat. When he first came to Equestria with Tirek hundreds of years ago, he was enamored with Celestia in all her regalia, and even when he sees her again centuries later he’s still just as taken with her.
After Tirek was imprisoned in Tartarus, Scorpan rose to be the heir of his kingdom. After Tirek had escaped and wrecked havoc across Equestria, his parents decided they needed to do some serious damage control. In an attempt to compensate for their eldest son’s misdeeds and the chaos he instilled, they offer Scorpan to Celestia as a potential husband to any of the princesses. Twilight was incredibly busy with her new school and still growing into her role as princess, so putting this on her would be very unfair. Luna was just getting into her relationship with the newly-reformed Sombra and having to part from him would also be unfair. Cadence was already married to Shining Armor, which left only one option.
Celestia agreed to marry Scorpan, both as an acceptance of their apology for their eldest son’s actions and to bring their nations together. Scorpan and Celestia were wed very soon after that, and while some ponies had their disagreements with the arrangement, most were curious and excited to welcome the new prince into their land. Canterlot partied for three full days after that.
Scorpan and Celestia warm up to each other very quickly, finding time between Celestia’s busy schedule to spend time together and get to know one another. Learning to love and care for Scorpan also helped heal Celestia’s broken heart after she’d lost her beloved Sombra from the mirror dimension. In fact, it wasn’t all that long before Celestia called together a great number of ponies for an announcement, before declaring that she and Scorpan were expecting a child. When their little one was born, all of Equestria rejoiced and the bond between Equestria and the lands to the west had never been stronger.
Scorpan becomes good friends with Twilight, having a lot of free time on his hands with Celestia’s busy schedule. He finds Equestrian literature fascinating and reads everything from history to fiction to autobiographies to even fashion magazines. He also strikes up a bond with Switcheroo, Discord and Fluttershy’s first and only child, who works at Twilight’s libraries as the head librarian.
