<ins>Birth of A Hero</ins>
It’d been months since Vanilla Swirl and Chisel found out that they’re going to be parents. Month after month, they eagerly counted the time for when they’ll bring their foal into the world. For them, the thought of being able to hold their foal in their hooves filled them with a type of joy that only a parent could comprehend. When Vanilla went into labor one day, Chisel was ready yet a sense of panic still washed over the earth stallion as he rushed his wife to the hospital. Never leaving her bedside, he held her hooves for hours as she labored to deliver her child.
“Honey, keep breathing! You’re doing fine!” Chisel pleaded to Vanilla Swirl as she breathed.
“Okay, just a couple more pushes!” Nurse Stethoscope said. With a loud grunt of pain, Vanilla Swirl pushed once again before becoming exhausted. Still breathing, she looked to her husband with pleading eyes as his hooves gripped hers. “Okay, just one more push! You can do this!”
With one final effort and another pained scream, Vanilla Swirl gave one last push. Exhausted once more, her moment of fatigue was only halted by a faint crying noise. In the nurse’s hooves was a foal, light blue coat, mane of light grass green, it cried away as Stethoscope cleaned it and wrapped it in a blanket. At last, their foal had been born.
“Congratulations, sir and madam,” Stethoscope said as she handed the swaddled infant off to its parents, “it’s a colt.”
“A colt.” Chisel breathed, “We have a son, Vanilla. A beautiful, healthy, colt.”
“My son.” Vanilla cried tears of joy as she held her colt in her hooves, exhausted and relieved, “We did it, Chisel.” The colt opened its eyes for the first time, “Look at those beautiful orange eyes of his. Very strapping. What should we name him?”
“I don’t know.” Mused Chisel as he momentarily stared out the window. Taking a look at the sky, he noticed it was blue, much like his son’s coat. Much like his mother, he was a pegasus. His wings looked to be big and strong, reminding him of how great a flier his wife was. Once those thoughts clicked in his head, coming together in one space, his answer was made clear. “Azure Glide.”
“What?”
“His name. I think it’s fitting in more ways than one.”
“Azure Glide.” Vanilla muttered as Chisel wrapped a hoof around her, embracing his family, “A beautifully strong name. Our little Azure.”
Taking in the moment, both Vanilla Swirl and Chisel shared a moment of silence as they reveled in the sight of their newborn colt. Over the course of eleven months, they could finally experience the joys of parenthood. It was through their love that brought them to that moment and it rewarded them greatly. As parents, they looked toward an optimistic future, raising their son together. All’s right with the world.
