Bakers rose early, to prepare their goods for morning; the Cakes were no different. Cup Cake had eaten food that hadn’t agreed with her beforehoof, but found the two Cakes in her belly to take the cake. Her sleeping husband with her, she lay in bed, bloodshot eyes staring at the wall. She loved her foals, and carrying them on their journey to life, but found every nudge and kick less exciting when all she wanted was rest.

She yawned, nearly dropping the bag of frosting in her mouth. Her knees were locked as she stood at the counter, but she wobbled side-to-side regardless. If only she could lock her neck. She’d recently started counting down the days until she could drink coffee again.

Carrot Cake looked over to see her sleeping, head on the counter. He gently nuzzled her, kissed her cheek, and took the bag from her mouth.
