Bad End AU- Prologue: Heartbroken.
Cadance my beloved, i'm so sorry my beautiful pink babyyy. Do i tend to make my fav characters struggle the most in this AU? yes, i do, i'm just a sucker for angst buaaa. I'm quite proud of this drawing! I STRUGGLED trying to make the crystal heart look like, well, crystal, but i'm very happy with the result! C:

Notes: This is directly tied to these two previous pieces with the last one being a continuation of this post, and how Stygian and Cadance became a thing, that's why i didn't really mentioned him here even though he is in the drawing, i just didn't want to write it again C,: sorry.

Also the story of this one is a bit forward in the AU, after the events of the villains taking over and Twi marriage to Nightmare Moon.

Everything had gone wrong in such little time.

Her sorrow had started when she and Celestia stared at the moon from the balcony, the whole castle surrounded by darkness; she could see panic in the tired and pale face of her aunt, this was bad. She had barely time to process what it meant when her husband, equally tired and weak as his magic had been drained, and a few of the guards had rushed into the room, ushering them to come with them, Tirek and Discord had arrived at the castle, the princess of the night apparently had surrendered to the dark too. They had fled the castle fast, leaving princess Celestia behind due to her own request, Cadance had begged to her aunt to come with them, she was the regent of Equestria, the most important pony of them all, but Celestia had told her that she also was a regent, the empress of the crystal empire and they needed her more now than ever, and thus they parted ways.

The plan was to reach the crystal empire, it was one of the few places that Tirek hadn’t wrecked in his magic consuming rampant. Even without magic, perhaps the crystal heart would still protect them. The road would be long since they needed to travel as hidden as possible. That was when her husband leadership had shone, Shining had sworn to Cadence that he would protect her, and even in the awful moments they were, she felt safe.

While they were traveling they had learnt that Nightmare Moon, Tirek and Discord had taken Canterlot, they had taken the alicorn magic from twilight, that Celestia was nowhere to be found, and most dangerous of all, Chrysalis had sought an alliance with them. They still had a chance; Chrysalis wouldn’t come for the crystal empire due to the harsh weather.

But in what little hope they had vanished when they finally reached the empire, and found the terrible sight of King Sombra. He had been brought back from his destroyed form by the seemingly endless magic of Discord, and he was looking for vengeance from the alicorn princess and her husband. Shining had ordered Cadance to enter the empire without them, they would protect her as she tried to reach for the crystal heart and seek help from the residents.

The guards and Shining fought with everything they could, but without their magic it was an impossible task, many had perished under the darkness of king Sombra . Cadance froze when she saw the horrible sight of Shining, her love, brutally wounded lying in the snow just outside of the empire. He looked lifeless. The piercing scream that came from the grieving princess was so terrible; it shattered the crystal heart, as if it was her own heart breaking.The ponies of the empire wept alongside her, the emotion so strong it had reached their hearts too, but it was soon replaced with the horror of the new King ascending to terrorize them once again. Cadence’s grief was so big, she surrendered to being imprisoned, and she was now in the hands of the darkness.

By request of the new Empress Nightmare Moon she wouldn’t be killed, as she had more plans to do with the pink alicorn. And Cadence would have preferred she had ended her life. She was a new pawn on her twisted game.

Striped of her Kingdom, her family, her love. The princess that once had it all now had nothing.
