Description:
Rare sighting of Love laughing?
Nah. Love laughs a lot- but only when she's with her dad. In fact, he's the only pony who can make her laugh. Genuine laughs, not condescending "I just beat you" laughs. Shining Armor has all the dad jokes, and they land every time.
Unlike... everyone else in her life, Love genuinely cares for Shining Armor. He's the only pony in the whole world who she perceives as truly pure. He has no ill intentions, no ulterior motives, no anger, no attitude, no hate. His love is true. He has always been good to her. Always made sure she had a snack, whether it was during school, or on a busy day of ruling the Kingdom. Made her bed whenever she forgot (which was rare, but still), and didn't tell Cadence about it after. Tucked her in at night even when the love he poured out was not reciprocated. He is the only one who has ever really seemed to understand her. He's never commented on her strange habits, or the off-putting parts of her personality- he always loved her for her, and never asked her to be anyone else.
While Love believes his love is genuine, she is also convinced that Shining is one of Cadence's many victims. There's no way to know whose mind has been infiltrated by Cadence's magic, so she safely assumes it is everyone but herself and Flurry Heart. A lot of what she does, including her whole scheme to defeat Cadence, is largely motivated on the prospect of freeing her father.
Shining gets to say he's the only person who can make the queen laugh, isn't that neat.
side notes
- Shining actually chose Love's name. He always wanted girls, and was so ecstatic when his second daughter was on the way. He named her Love Letter because that's exactly what she felt like.
- In regards to that paragraph talking about how Shining never questions a thing Love does... Well, the first time he ever does is when she starts publicly executing people. I'll do a whole piece about that, but for now I'll just say it's messy.
