While exploring the lost city of Cloudsdale, Zipp and Pipp reunite with their estranged father.

Watching G5 for while, I realized that there are a lot of single parents in the series: Argyle, Phyllis, Alphabittle, Queen Haven, and even Hitch could now count as one, being the adopted father of Sparky. I've always wondered who some of the other parents of the characters were. We got a surprise appearance of Sunny's mom in TYT, and I wanted to give my interpretations of what happened to the lost parents of the other characters. Starting with Zipp and Pipp's father, whom I've always been curious about.

Cirrus Cloudwatcher was once captain of the guard in Zephyr Heights, serving under the ruling queen at the time (Queen Haven's mother). He was a tough and formidable pegasus stallion who performed his role amirably as a guardsman, but secretly he held a fascination and passion for the sky, especially the passing clouds. Much of his time was spent studying and reading about them in the towering halls of the castle library whenever he was off duty. He and Haven (Who was a princess) fell deeply in love during his time as a guard, and the two were soon married following Haven's coronation. Their union resulted in the birth of their two daughters: Zipp Storm and Pipp Petals.

However, though he was happy with his life and family, Cirrus greatly desired to study clouds, and ultimately left in an airship to find the lost city of Cloudsdale, a pegasus city that he had been told many stories of as a colt. He promised Zipp, who was the most devastated by his departure, that he would return one day, though he never did.

Many years later, some time after magic had returned to Equestria, the sisters found themselves caught in the tempest of a large thunderstorm while flying back to Zephyr Heights for a visit. In the eye of the storm, they unwittingly discovered Cloudsdale, and among its ruins, their father and his airship.

That's about it. Considering that Queen Haven herself is a ruler, I always wondered who her previous mate was before Alphabittle. Making Cirrus a king, I felt, was too easy, and I wanted to do something interesting with him. I made him a former guard/researcher. I would almost compare him to Sunny's father, Argylle, except the latter actually stuck around for his kid. I also gave him fluffy wings and green eyes, much like Pipp, because I imagine he is who she got her traits from. Meanwhile, Zipp inherited his sense of curiosity and intelligence.
