snowbird went grey at a young age- not uncommon among the natural-coated earth ponies- which made him a prime candidate to spy on the nearby unicorn kingdom. a pure white coat fits in perfectly among the colorful unicorns, where the duns and pintos of most other earth ponies do not. he wears a fake horn and warm clothes in the snowy mountain kingdom, and writes letters with his observations back home. its lonely work, but someone needs to do it
