Firefly always was drawn to Honeydew Raindrop, even when he expressed many times that he wasn't interested in being seen with a weirdo bug creature. His peers made fun of him when they were together - changelings were still seen through weary lenses - but it was mostly the cats he takes care of are scared of her. The cats' well being meant a lot to him! Doesn't help that Firefly hasn't learned how to reign in her predatory instincts (even towards the bigger cats...)
At the end of the day, Honey doesn't dislike her - just a boy being a boy in that "No Girls Allowed" phase for his friends. He's swayed by his peers and doesn't want to be associated by nerds. Especially nerds who can easily lift him off the ground like he weighed nothing.
I decided to make Honeydew a little more young, Instead of a teen he's like...eleven while Firefly is around ten. He's the youngest of the Apple herd and as the son of Fluttershy he inherited his gift for communicating with felines. He's def going through that awkward skinny start right about now but Firefly thinks he's hunky, lmao.
