Sometimes, the absolute hardest thing you can do is admit that you're feeling emotionally unsafe. That someone else's fun and enjoyment is making you feel awful. "I'm the issue, not them. If I make a big deal out of it, everyone will resent me for making a mountain out of a molehill. I should just keep quiet and go along with it. I can deal with it." Sometimes, that much-vaunted ideal of open dialogue and communication is the hardest thing to achieve, because it also means admitting to yourself that you were wrapping yourself in lies to yourself just to withstand it. And it really doesn't help if, on top of all that, you're dealing with a truly steamrolling presence or personality. Overcoming all of that feels like trying to push a mountain off your chest while it's crushing you.

Speaking from some amount of personal experience. Not necessarily from the tabletop gaming space.
