a lot of my nextgen references need updating, with the fluttercord one being the most in need - i dont think ive had all of them in a row together since like, 2018 actually.

i am currently melting in this heatwave and so is my brain, but lets give writing things out a go. most of this isnt new information, but ive retconned a few things

if youve followed me for a while, you will know i had a plotpoint in my au in that discord is first with twilight before fluttershy - im scrapping that. i kinda think the intimacy adds nothing other than rlly unnecessary tension between twilight and fluttershy. instead, twilight and discord still have a very love hate relationship (mostly hate. he is the embodiment of chaos, she's the embodiment of harmony. theyre never gonna fully see eye to eye), but it remains platonic throughout. Twilight (and the rest of the mane six, actually) is incredibly skeptical of his intentions when he expressed an interest in fluttershy. however, it soon became clear that discord genuinely loved her and wasnt going to mess with her, so they learned to tolerate him.
Discord is an immortal god of chaos, or so he claims, anyway. draconequi had been extinct for thousands of years, until Discord seemed to reappear completely out of nowhere and basically destroy Equestria. Luna and Celestia were able to incase him in stone, and then again the mane six did the same years later, but it was becoming clear that this was a temporary situation. so his reformation process begins and we all know the rest woohoo
its actually unknown if discord is even considered a god, or strong for his kind. but when he came about with his reign of terror, ponies thought he was, and he loves it so he's embracing it.
as an immortal god of chaos, he's also pangender - meanin he is every gender, all at once.he's fine with any pronouns, but generally ponies use either he or they because its what they can best understand
for fluttershy, i made the decision this time around to take out the asexual headcanon. i realised having her and no one else of the mane six be asexual is pretty icky, and plays into the stereotype of asexual ppl being shy/meek/etc.
fluttershy grew up in cloudsdale with rainbow dash. the two were best of friends, and practically inseperable. they also had a very obvious mutual crush on each other... however this didnt get past cutesy awkward blushing. rainbow dash is remarkably awful at expressing her softer feelings, and fluttershy is.... shy lmao. the crush fades into adulthood, however theyre still the best of friends and rainbow would protect her with her life. Rainbow often stood up to bullies for her, getting her on the receiving end of some harsh bullies herself - and even moves to ponyville to be closer to her, after fluttershy decided that she wanted to stay on the ground and follow her talent.
Fluttershy and Discord together, i just.... i am a sucker for the tough guy who's soft for one person trope. he loves her bro. idk what else to say. he's an absolute trickster to everyone else, but if youre mean to fluttershy he will destroy you. after he lets her speak up for herself, of course.
When they make the decision to start a family together, they struggled immensely. they werent even sure that it was even possible for a draconequus and a mortal pony to conceive. after many months and even years of trying, however, they were finally successful, and fluttershy managed to carry a child to full term.
the pregnancy itself however, was far from easy. ponies can breed with draconequus, however if its the pony that carries the child, a lot of issues can arise. A developing draconequus baby needs a LOT of magic, and will drain this from the mother. While an alicorn or an incredibly powerful unicorn might be able to just about manage, a pegasus like fluttershy, who didnt have particularly strong magic anyway, struggled a lot. she was incredibly sick throughout, and it was thought that neither she nor the baby would make it. it was an incredibly difficult time, both for discord and the mane six - but with a lot of attention and care, boht fluttershy and the baby managed to make a full recovery after birth.
and so leetle baby Iris is born.
Iris shares her mothers love for animals, though not her very kind and gentlehoofed demeanor, much to angel bunny's dismay. as a cub she cuddles and dresses him up for tea parties a bit too roughly. but he loves fluttershy..... and also literally cant sleep.... so he lives with it.
While Iris is growing up, Tree Hugger spends a lot of time at Fluttershy's cottage. She was often inbetween jobs, given her personality/lifestyle, and Fluttershy was always offering her a sofa to sleep on. and Iris LOVED auntie tree hugger. so much so, she got completely deeply into all of her hobbies, including her talk of healing energies and vibes. it rubbed off on Iris A LOT- with her growing up to be chilled, spoft spoken, and a bit of an airhead.
Iris is best friends with Summer Ballad, the second born of twilight and rainbow. Summer is much more extroverted and theatrical, but the two manage to perfectly balance each other out while also holding a single braincell between them
the eldest of the twidash kids, Bird Song, also happens to spend a lot of time at Fluttershy's cottage. After getting her cutie mark in bird care, she's more than happy to help her aunt out with caring for her chickens/songbirds/etc. It's through this that she meets Iris. The two don't really get along at first - Birdie is not a fan of Iris' airheaded personality, and finds her in the way of her work more often than not. However, she soon catches on that Iris is actually a lot kinder, and smarter, than she seems. and then suddenly everything she does is really really cute and uh oh oh no.
they obviously kiss and then marry and have a kid together, named Dottie (i will also update their ref at some point lmao).
Despite causing so many problems in utero, Iris is actually almost entirely magicless. She can fly, with about as much proficiency as the average pegasus - however she can't float like her father, or use magic through her horns or through her paws. Despite Iris' pretty layed back demeanour, this does get to her quite a bit. it's uncertain whether or not this is a birth defect, or if pony/draconequus hybrids dont have the same magic as their purebred counterparts, but either way, Iris feels like a complete disappointment to her father.
Discord loves his daughter more than anything, but he is still pretty emotionally immature Discord. He can't help but feel a little bitter that his daughter doesn't have magic like his, and while he showers his daughter with endless affection, there is always the occasional comment or look that lets Iris know her fathers disappointment in her isn't just in her head.

ANYWAY i wrote more than i meant to oopsie. im sorry nextgen stuff has been a bit sparse, its just kinda not what ive been wanting to draw these days. ive got a few things ive been working on here and there though that ill be uploading over the next few weeks so look out for those :] yay
