Interrogation
I know the anatomy of the Princesses isn't quite correct, but I drew this one in a hurry.
"See you when I get back," Luna called as she flew off above the towers of the Canterlot palace. Sombra waved a hoof in the air after her.
"Bye!!!" He watched until she was only a dot in the distance, then headed into the castle. "Celestia?" he called, knocking on her door.
"She and Princess Cadence are down near the library, sir," a guard told him, pointing to a large flight of stairs.
"Thank you." Sombra nodded his thanks to the guard and trotted down the stairs. He was almost at the library when somepony called his name.
"Sombra!" He looked around and saw Celestia and Cadence walking towards him.
"Good morning, Princesses," he greeted, trotting over to them.
"A guard told us you were looking for me," Celestia said. "Is there something you need?"
"Uh..." All of a sudden, Sombra felt a little weak. Was the room getting warmer? "Y-yes. I need to ask you something. In private, if you don't mind." Celestia looked a little surprised, but nodded.
"Alright. Can Cadence come?" she asked.
"Oh, no, Tia. If it's a private conversation, you two can talk it out. I think Flurry wanted me to watch her do a new trick she figured out, anyway."
"Oh, you can come if you'd like," Sombra invited. "I don't mind."
"Well, if you're sure..." The trio walked into the library and found a quiet reading nook. Sombra pulled the curtains at the entrance shut just in case. He didn't want anypony listening in on this conversation.
"Sooo, what do you need to ask me?" Celestia asked. Sombra shuffled his hooves. Am I sweating?! he gasped inwardly.
"Erm...ah," he stammered. "Well, I needed to ask......." Celestia and Cadence looked at him curiously. Ican'tsayitIcan'tsayit! He finally blurted out: "May I marry Luna?!"
.....................................................................A very long, very awkward pause followed as the question sunk in.
"Oh," Celestia said, her voice drained of any emotion. "That's what this is about." Sombra held his breath.
"Hm," Cadence murmured, expression unreadable. Sombra looked around. Was the small room getting darker?
"Y-yes," he stammered. "I know you are sort of like a mother to Luna, as well as a sister, so I thought it best if I asked you for permission."
"You thought correctly," Celestia answered, still opaque. Cadence nodded silently in agreement. Another looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong pause.
"Sooo....?" Sombra pressed, his skin burning. Seriously, was somepony having a bonfire or something?!?!
"So, what?" Celestia asked, raising an eyebrow. Sombra took a tiny step back.
"I-I don't kn-"
"Why do you want to marry Luna?" Celestia demanded, taking a giant step forward.
"B-because I love her," Sombra responded, retreating a bit more. Honestly, the room was as dark as ever! The princesses had their horns lit up.
"Is that so?" Celestia continued.
"Yes! Absolutely!" Sombra answered immediately.
"Why?" the Sun Princess inquired forcefully.
"Well, she's smart, and cheerful, even after everything she's gone through, she's understanding, kind, wise, beautiful, smart... I said smart twice, didn't I?" He heard Cadence give a tiny giggle, but when he glanced at her, she had a stony face as well.
"You do realize these are just the attributes of any good friend, don't you?" Celestia told him.
"Well, yes, but Luna has taken time aside from everything she does just to help me learn new things and to guide me in decisions," Sombra replied.
"Again, any good friend should do that. You think just because she's your first friend you should up and marry her?" Cadence retorted.
"No!" Sombra realized he was shrinking away from the two. Why the HAY was he so scared today?!?!
"Then why do you think she is anything different from any other friend you have?"
"Well, when I was in the Caverns, even after I captured her, she opened up to me and my problems, and she shared a similar past.......and she taught me to dance," he added, a quick grin flitting across his face. Did Celestia smile, or was that his imagination?
"Hm. Are you simply attracted to her because she's pretty?" Celestia pressed.
"No! I mean, yes, er sorta. Well, she is absolutely gorgeous," he said, "but I also love her because she helped me turn away from being... well, to put it frankly, a depressed, semi-evil freak who planned to live the rest of his life underground." He heard another snort from Cadence, but, again, when he looked, she was unreadable.
"You're just naming a bunch of things any good friend would do," Celestia announced. "_IF _you do actually love her, it would only be because she was your first friend, so the natural inclination would be to be attracted to her."
"What? That's not it at all!" Sombra gasped.
"Then what is it?" Cadence demanded.
"I just- It's..." he stammered, trying to put his thoughts into words.
"It's WHAT?" Celestia roared, leaning forward. Sombra jumped back like a frightened school-filly.
"It's....I like her bec-...GRRR!!!! I DON'T KNOW!!!!" he shouted back. "I love her! Okay?! Is that not good enough for you?! She's everything a good friend would be and more! She's always nice! She corrects me when I'm wrong! She's perfect!"
"Hm," Celestia stood upright. "If Equestria fell and everypony died, where would you go?" Sombra blinked.
"What kind of a question is that?" he asked, puzzled.
"ANSWER IT!!!!" Cadence shrieked.
"Gah!" he gasped. "I'd go to the Caverns of Time first, but if I couldn't go there, I'd go to Griffonstone."
"Why?"
"The griffons and I have always gotten along. And they provide very good defenses against whatever might have happened."
"If you had to get a job like everypony else, what would you do?" Cadence asked.
"Well, I'm strong and I enjoy smithing, so a blacksmith would probably hire me. And if not that, then I could be a cabby pony, or a stagecoach puller, or I could teach magic."
"Final question!" Celestia announced. Sombra gulped as she leaned into his face, glaring at him. "Who........is.........best princess?"
Sombra blinked."Er....Sorry, but I think Luna wins."
"Why, because you're 'in love with her'?" Celestia droned rolling her eyes.
"No, because...eh...well..... she .....understands her subjects better...then...you guys...." He shrugged. "Hey, you asked." Sombra glanced up at Celestia. He held his breath as she stared down her muzzle at him. Suddenly, a grin broke over her face and she lsung a wing around his shoulders.
"Welcome to the family!"
Wow. That was another really long one. I was laughing at Sombra the whole time XD.
Poor guy.
Anyhoo, I did this one really fast, so sorry for the bad anatomy. I was in a hurry.
