anyway, headcanon!!! Discord and Rarity are best friends :>
Discord was always a fan of Rarity. she's dramatic, confident, proud of her work, not afraid to show off her stuff. he adored her work, all of the odd designs she discarded, the flamboyancy. he became somewhat of a support for her, accompanying her on photoshoots and shopping sprees. he even came to financially support her when her work drew the attention of the upper classes.
his fashion sense is...very odd, to say the least. accompanying Rarity on her various large-scale escapades, Discord felt that he needed to match her. she was a famous fashionista, after all, and despite his status as king, he felt that he was embarrassing her, being so underdressed in her presence. problem is that he doesn't have a fashion sense; he doesn't know the first thing about fashion, hardly remembering the bits and pieces of information Rarity fed him when they spoke. so, in an effort to try and 'get him up to par', so to speak, he became sort of a model for Rarity's weirder designs. she made designs, picked out the elements she liked, and threw them together to make an outfit. and that was Discord's fashion sense: chaos.
he loved everything she made. he grew further involved in her adventures, knowing incredibly little about the industry, but loving it anyway, how odd and innocuous it could be. his entire family was supportive; Hephaestus and Luna's child, Firefly, loved it too, and sat alongside Discord as they watched Rarity's designs get walked down the runway. Rarity became infinitely more confident with the support, and was flying up the ranks. her budget was limitless.
Rarity's and Applejack's daughter got tied up in it, too. she wanted not to be a fashionista, like her mother, but to be a model. and she was worthy of it. Discord (alongside everyone else, including an endlessly confused Applejack) was ridiculously supportive, and she became a fashion icon like Fluttershy was.
thus we have this weird, intimidating, smug, unapproachable trio. look. gaze upon their tiny purses and despair.
idk none of this makes sense but Discord and Rarity are definitely friends and Discord would definitely wear that.
