Between Season 2 and 4, Tirek had just escaped Tartarus, and wanders Equestria, in hopes to rest and regain his power.
He comes across a filly named Cozy Glow, all alone. They meet each other without exchanging names. So the weak pony-sized Tirek took this as a small to take a small ounce of revenge on the ponies in his current state, as well as entertainment for himself.
He violated the young filly in order to break her spirit. Little did he know, just after he left, it had an opposite effect on her. She admired how he ferociously forced himself onto her. As though she were in love.
She hasn’t heard from him since his battle with Princess Twilight. Thus, they became pen pals. Imagine Tirek’s surprise when he learned his pen pal Cozy Glow and the filly that he met were one and the same.
