Poetic Justice stepped out of the into the hallway, head held high as he tried to kept a small, triumphant smile off of his face. Poet just secured a very lucrative deal with ponies from Saddle Arabia that will be benefit Canterlot and Ponyville quite a bit in the future.

Okay. A little smile was warranted. He was very happy, after all.

“Boy howdy...do you look pretty when you smile…” A deep, slow voice drawled behind Poet - amused and slightly bored. A voice that almost made him jump and tuck his tail between his legs. The smile from his face was completely gone and was replaced with a scowl as the pony behind him walked towards him, large hooves clicking against the newly polished floors. Poet let out a soft sigh and closed his eyes, gathering his composure.

You are a prince. Act like one.

“Johnny Gold.” He greeted as he turned towards the other stallion. The earth pony smirked and twitched his tail feathers a bit in anticipation.

How uncouth.

Poet fought the urge to scoff and forced a greeting. “What brings you here today?” Just enough neutrality to not mean any offense, but firm enough to show the other stallion that he had better things to do. Johnny stopped in front of Poet and grinned. “Jus’ here on Apple business, darlin’.”

“Excuse me? Have I told you not to call me-”

A large hoof cut him off as it was waved in front of Poet’s face. The unicorn snorted and the hoof quickly recoiled to Johnny’s broad chest. “Alright, alright, I’m sorry. I can’t help myself -” Johnny pouted. “- because anytime I see ya I-”

“Johnny.”

“Heh, sorry...I’ll stop.”

Poetic Justice sighed again, this one not as quiet as the first. “Fine. Thank you.” He looked away and acted like he was interested in a vase the shape of an ursa minor at the end of the hall. But in reality Johnny Gold’s green eyes were very intense and Poet just couldn’t hold his gaze. As a prince eye contact was very, very important and he prided himself at never breaking stares with the most vicious and hostile diplomats but this pony in front of him made him want to lower his eyes like a shy school foal.

It made his fur bristle! He hated that Johnny Gold made him feel this way. He didn’t even like him, right? Poet cleared his throat and nodded to a couple of ponies who walked past them and murmured his greetings. They smiled and bowed their heads to their prince, breezing past them and continuing on their way. His eyes were back on the earth pony in front of him. Johnny was always much taller than Poet, even as kids. He refused to be cowed by him at all times, and now was no different. The prince raised his head. “I got places to go. It was nice seeing you again and I do hope you get what you need to get done finished.”

And leave, farm boy.

Poet almost snickered at that coy little thought as he started his way down the hall again, tail up high.

That deep voice growled again and stopped him in his tracks. “Oh, I already got what I wanted, little pony.” Poet looked back quickly to give that damned earth pony a tongue lashing but was met with glowing, red eyes. The bigger pony was smirking again, sharp teeth slightly barred as he licked his lips. The heat of his blush crept up the prince’s neck and cheeks as he kept himself from squawking, fur from fluffing up and mouth from hanging agape...and to keep from running. He suddenly felt like an ant under a microscope and he didn’t like it one bit. Just as quickly Poet turned his head towards the front and continued to walk with some haste in his steps.

Behind him he heard the low chuckle from Johnny as he started to trot as he hit the hallway bend.

Poetic Justice and Johnny Gold have a...weird relationship. Poet insists that he doesn’t really like Johnny and only prefers him as an acquaintance (that he barely sees) but Johnny thinks they can be a little more...or he’s just a big darn flirt and likes ruffling Poet’s jimmies for funsies. Johnny is around a lot during the summers because his voice and talent was to be heard at parties and royal gatherings (Celestia loved his voice).

The two were never friends. Johnny was kind of a bully as a younger colt and he would tease Poet ranging from things like his hair to his face shape. The prince just doesn’t understand what Johnny’s angle is after all of that.

Poet is a prince so when ponies see him they usually bow their heads in respect. Soldiers kneel on one knee.

Johnny does neither.
