Description:
- Jetstream was four years old when his little brother, Prism Storm was born. Jet wasn’t too terribly keen on the idea of a little sibling, and he and Prism weren’t exactly best friends upon finally meeting. However, that all changed when one day, Jet was in the cloud garden with his baby brother, who’d just started to get his feet underneath him and walk. He was still pretty useless and kinda lame. Rainbow Dash was sitting with Aunt Fluttershy in the backyard, having tea and chatting away. So that left Jetstream to sit, bored, and play with Prism. That is, until his older brother felt just a hint of spite and started to hover in front of him, teasing his brother that he can’t fly, and he totally can. And that’s when Prism gave a mighty squeak, his unusually bushy little brows furrowed, and he started to flap his scrawny little wings for the very first time.
The little colt was so determined, it seemed, to copy his older sibling that that little spark of magic within each pony – earth, unicorn, and pegasi – decided to ignite just then. Prism shot right into the air with a good, solid flap. As baby pegasi tend to do, he became delighted with his sudden, newfound ability. He quickly decided (as well as a baby can decide things) that it was time to take a good, long test run with these things – off this boring cloud. He managed to just make it over the edge of the cloudiminium before Jetstream yanks him back to safety. Past the fussing of the two grown mares (and Rainbow’s dismay at missing Prism’s first flight) Jet found himself suddenly proud of this little bundle of squish he called his brother. And this dude was dumb enough to try and fly in open air before his wings were even fully developed, so he obviously needed a little extra protection and guidance. Jet decides from there to aid his parents in teaching Prism Storm to be one of the best fliers ever! Sometimes, though, it can be a little hard when it seems all he wants to do is babble and smack Jet in the face with his wings.
- “Hey guys, this is Mistfeather. She goes to school in Cloudsdale, but she’s gonna start a class at the school house and start visiting Ponyville more, so she’s gonna eat lunch with us and hang.”
One of Jetstream’s most notable characteristics is his ability to get along with most anypony, and his fierce devotion to his friends. Even from a young age, he’s the type of guy to invite a shy filly to eat with him and his large, eclectic group of friends. He’s always one to enthusiastically point out somecreature’s accomplishments, be they the big or small. He boasts his fellow creature up when they’re feeling down, and his fervor is often contagious. He often reminds the older ponies of Ponyville of a certain Element of Loyalty alsoknownasmommylol with his strong spirit and rather big heart.
- And here Jet is with his very first, quite beloved acoustic guitar, Old Faithful. A gift from his honorary uncle Ash Bark, Old Faithful kickstarts a fiery passion within the pegasus that is isn’t going to extinguish anytime soon. Fascinated with music since he was very young, Jetstream took lessons from Ash and took up teaching himself on how to play the guitar. And feel the guitar, become one with the guitar. Jet’s deep-seated love of music keeps his spirit alive, and though the rest of his family has passions in the sky, his flows into his notes and chords. He knows music is one of the pillars of communication between the creatures of Equestria and beyond.
Just as stories pass from generation to generation, so does music. And each piece of music that exists tells a story in some form or another. Jetstream finds himself particularly fond of the way rock music feels, and that becomes his focus as he develops his obvious talents. He goes from covering familiar songs and learning to read sheet music, to writing his own and coming to an understanding on the in and outs of this world. He mainly uses his electric, Johnny Five, when he’s practicing or performing in front of others, but Old Faithful remains his go-to when he needs to unwind just a little and strum a few gentle chords.
Another one of Jetstream’s unique characteristics, though this one plays more into his pegasus heritage. While his talents lean more towards music, he is still a pretty cool sight in the skies. His wings are rather large and wide, as opposed to his brother’s (thin, tapered) so he’s not the most speedy stallion in the skies. Though he can usually keep up in a good-natured race, he is certainly outpaced if Prism or Rainbow Dash get up to full speed. However, as even portrayed on his cutie mark (and ironically contrary to his mellow personality), he has a knack for creating storm clouds full of thunder. If there are thunderclouds present, and he has a fancy to show off his more athletic abilities, Jetstream lights up the skies around him. Small, rainbow-colored electric streams surround his rather large wings, crackling and snapping as he makes his own mini lightning storm. This also seems to occur when Jet is particularly defensive or angry – especially when his friends are in peril.
Now here’s a bit of an interesting story. One of Jetstream’s lifelong best friends is unicorn/fellow band member/sassy gay fellow/ Tourmaline Quartz (Tom for short). Growing up alongside one another (since their mothers are best friends themselves) these two get along like peas in a pod. Tommy’s inclination for the drums and being quite talented at such, the two quickly form their little two pony band, RazorWingz. At first, its a neat idea that their mothers think is adorable, and of course they can practice at Twilight’s castle as much as they want (thanks to some advanced soundproof spells). Then, it evolves into something that feels rather solid and real. They have quite a bit of support behind them from friends and family – notably Jet’s younger brother, Prism. As they get older, Jet does indeed notice Prism is hanging around more and more, and focusing a lot of attention on the unicorn. Of course, they grew up together as well (Tom being two years older than Priz) so its expected that they’d be friends.
But poor, rather oblivious Jet overlooked the longing looks and slight shoulder brushes between the two. Needless to say, he was a tad blindsided when going to collect Tom for practice, and he finds the unicorn and his brother wrapped in a rather sweet embrace. Prism is immediately defensive, firmly telling Jet that he can’t ever tell him what he can and cannot do, and if he tells Mom he’s 100% dead. Tom pleads instead, for not only Jet’s understanding but his acceptance. Jet is confused until they have to blatantly explain that they are in a secret relationship – and have been for six months. To make a rather long story (and conversation) short, once Jet understands what’s going on, it takes about ten minutes of him repeating “its okay guys, everything’s chill. No, Priz – guys, its alright, just calm the heck down…” before he’s able to tell them that he’s only upset that they kept it from him and their respective parents for so long. He’s happy for the two of them, loves them, and this is the catalyst that finally convinces Prism to come out to his mother and father…
- And, we finally end on two brothers. Simply sharing a flight and a conversation. And forever inseparable.
