Clearing Things Up:

It’s a common misconception that Chrysalis mothered every changeling under her command, hence the rather questionable looks she got at her wedding to Thorax. In truth, there are actually “lesser queens” in the hive who are responsible for producing stronger drones with more potential. This is why Thorax is the one ascended to king status post-reformation. Ocellus is also one such case but unlike Thorax, she’s born directly from Chrysalis, making her Carapace and Elytra’s half-sister.

Parents’ Get-Together:

Initially, the inter-changeling marriage was meant to bridge the gap between the two changeling factions. Chrysalis was rather cold towards her husband during the early parts of their marriage. Eventually, she did warm up to Thorax (not that she’d admit it) and grew to genuinely love him. Carapace and Elytra were the results of this love that developed.

The two are a rather unusual pair, with their looks favoring their respective same-gendered parent but still retaining characteristics of the other parent. Since being born with a mane is a sign of royalty among changelings, Carapace was initially chosen as the official heir, until he expressed a desire to become more of an ambassador. Seeing as Elytra showed more leadership skills, she was chosen as the official heir instead. Thorax is a very loving parent to both of them and often feeds them love via family huggles (with a reluctant Chrissy joining in). Meanwhile, Chrysalis tends to be a bit too strict with them, but she does love them and is simply worried that they’ll make the same mistakes as her.

Elytra has a crush on Flurry Heart, but is often hesitating out of feeling awkward over what happened between their parents. Carapace is good friends with Hunter and has an…interesting dynamic with Jade (they bicker but blush when close to each other).

They also have numerous other siblings that Chrysalis will proudly describe as the “next generation drones.”
