Personality:

Tobias is stern and intimidating, he tends to scare most ponies due to his overall demeanor and of course the fact that he’s a bat pony doesn’t exactly lure ponies in either. Tobias is a very determined pony and takes his job of protecting the Prince very seriously, although despite his typical hardened military stallion image, deep down he’s actually got a sense of humor and he’s kind of a softie.

Background:

Tobias’ childhood was pretty decent in the start, his family wasn’t rich but they weren’t poor either, and they managed just fine. Tobias’ father Penumbra (often just called “Umbra”) was a soldier for Princess Celestia herself, despite being a bat pony he was her most trusted general and her right hoof man no matter what. Tobias’ mother Rose worked as a sort of waitress at a bar in Canterlot, she wasn’t proud of her job but she made decent money when it came to tips and she didn’t know of anywhere else that would willingly hire a bat pony, despite her husband’s high status in the royal guard. Despite their issues, they all managed as a family and made it through even the toughest of times.That semi-perfect world came crashing down one day, when Penumbra was killed in battle. Word spread quickly of how Celestia had done the deed herself after the bat pony went rogue and tried to take the glory for himself, or so rumors said. Nopony knew for sure what had happened, all that was known for sure what that it was a battle with King Sombra himself, and that a guard had been slain by Celestia’s hoof.Upon the passing of her husband, Rose went into a deep depression and began to drink heavily, choosing to drown out her own sorrows instead of being there for her child. Eventually Tobias was taken away form his mother by Child Protective Services after neighbors reported the sounds of yelling and breaking glass to the police, Rose pleaded for them not to take her child, but she didn’t fight them, she was too weak to care anymore.When Tobias was taken he was terrified, but he soon adapted and got used to his new life. He started out in a foster home with a nice family, but they soon sent him back fearing that because he was a bat pony, he was dangerous. This happened with quite a few families, until Tobias ended up with a single mare, who was sadly unable to have children of her own. In his new home Tobias had a little sister who was also adopted, her name was Primrose.When he was old enough, Tobias joined the royal guard with one goal: to avenge his father. In the beginning, Tobias barely excelled and had a hard time keeping up with his fellow recruits at first, that changed quickly though. Within a few weeks Tobias was excelling above each member of his new troop, one by one until he was on the top. Eventually Celestia’s attention was drawn to the young bat pony, and Luna insisted that she recruit him as Solaris’ personal bodyguard. Celestia agreed and recruited the bat pony in person.Once Tobias became Solaris’ bodyguard, he came up with a plan: if he got close enough, he could kill Solaris, avenging his father by taking Celestia’s most prized possession away, her child. The plan worked out beautifully as Tobias manipulated the prince into falling in love with him, in order to get closer. Everything was going smoothly, until Tobias began to have odd urges, as he himself began to fall in love with the prince.

Other:

~ Tobias looooooves chocolate cake, he tried it for the first time when he was 5 years old at a cousin’s birthday party and fell in love with it, not many ponies know about this.

~ after he began to have feelings for Solaris, Tobias went to confront Celestia with forgiveness despite the fact that she probably wouldn’t have any idea that she had killed his father. Immediately Celestia knew, how couldn’t she when the features of her once beloved general Penumbra sat upon the face of this new bat pony guard. Tobias of course had questions, and Celestia willingly shared her memories to explain. Once Tobias saw how his father had perished and the vision that Celestia had created for them to share had perished, Tobias found the princess before him sobbing her eyes out, and apologizing pathetically. Tobias gave Celestia the biggest bear hug he could and told her that he forgave her, knowing his father’s death wasn’t truly her fault.

~ Celestia gave Tobias her blessing to marry Solaris a few weeks after she had told him the truth about his father’s death, but Tobias waited to propose, not wanting to rush things with Solaris.

EDIT: I rewrote Tobias’ bio and fleshed him out a bit more, I figured he deserved a more interesting backstory so I started writing some stuff down, and then this came out of a big mishmash of all of my ideas so here ya go, have some angsty character background.  

So I’ve had this idea in the back of my head for ages now and I finally decided to-do something with it, the concept started out around the idea that Solaris had a bat pony nanny as a baby who later turned into his personal guard, but I’m a sucker for gay ships and I couldn’t resist all the adorable scenarios that these two would somehow get themselves into, so here ya go Solaris’ boyfriend personal guard
