Sunset Shimmer had a very hard time having foals. She managed to have one son, Solar Flare, and to say the least the pregnancy was a nightmare.

After that she discovered she was completely sterile, so she and her newly wed (second)husband Donut Joe decided to turn to a surrogate mother to help them.

Being close to Sunburst(Sunset’s baby brother), Starlight Glimmer(though just recently having a foal of her own) stepped up and offered to carry a foal for them. After consideration, Sunset was overjoyed to agree, to say the least.

And a year of whiny preggy Starlight later, Sunset and Joe adopted their little Cinnamon Swirl yay happy ending.

Sooo big retcon to Cinnamon Swirl. He’s now the son of Donut Joe and Sunset Shimmer but his surrogate mother is Starlight Glimmer~

I knew I wanted at least Starlight to be his birth mother, but he was looking too much like his adoptive father for….. y’know… being adopted. And he wasn’t anything like Dr.Whooves tbh

And also his previous backstory was kinda sad and I wasn’t feeling it. Starlight DID feel hurt letting Swirl go though. She’s grateful Sunset and Joe are happy, but it’s a bit of a sore subject, so she doesn’t talk about it much.

Cinnamon Swirl learned of him having a surrogate mother around 18 years old and wants nothing more than to meet her, though Starlight tries hard to stay away to not feel bitter.

He’s a year younger than Pocket Watch, and Pocket Watch knows nothing about a possible “brother”.
