Description:
The floor was littered with cut and torn fabric, threads and star shaped pieces. The latter almost created a milkyway, since one particular foal had got super excited about cutting stars for his new costume. It was a very rare sight since this household wasn’t known for handicrafting.“Mama, are we done yet?”, Moondancer asked eagerly from the light blue mare who seemed to struggle with her sewing. “Just… a few stitches… left”, Trixie muttered as she tried her very best to sew a familiar looking magician’s hat together. Moondancer was helping by levitating the handmade hat in the air so that his mother could focus her magic completely on the sewing. Trixie really felt herself like a fish out of water. She had never thought that someday she’d use her magic for something like this. She was a magician, not a seamstress! But it couldn’t be helped because Moondancer insisted them making the outfit together, by themselves.‘Dang it, I need to unravel this again”, the mare sighed in her thoughts and blew a few messy tresses blocking her sight away. Actually her whole mane was all messy, thanks to tiny bits of frustration every now and then. Se was grateful she didn’t have to make her own magician outfit in the past. She would’ve lost her mind.“Tell me Moony, why do you want this to look like the costume I had in the first place? I mean, don’t you want it to look cooler, like the one Star Swirl the Bearded had?”,Trixie asked while unraveling the last bad stitch she made. “Or is this for Nightmare Night?”, the mare laughed thinking about how Moony would try to impersonate her as a joke, even if she knew Nightmare Night wasn’t even close yet. That’s why she didn’t really get the hype Moondancer had. Besides they could’ve just commissioned Rarity, a professional, to make a proper looking cape and hat for him, though it would have cost much more than the tools they had bought from a cheap hobby crafts shop. Taking that into consideration, Trixie was relieved that Moondancer didn’t really care about quality. But why would the colt be satisfied with her rough looking craft?“Well, Missus Cheerilee told us we could make a presentation about who or what we want to be when we grow up and I want to be just like the Great and Powerful Trixie!”, Moondancer answered with a big smile on his face and bounced happily. Trixie was dumbfounded. Moondancer wanted to be just like her and show it to the whole class? She always thought he admired the legendary Star Swirl the most because he always enjoyed the stories she told about him, while she herself was just a mere magician. That’s why she couldn’t believe what Moondancer implied the whole time when he told her about the idea of making the same costume she had in his size. “And you’re the only one who can make the outfit right!”, Moondancer stated and rose on his hindlegs and pointed at her mother with his other hoof. He firmly believed that no one else’s work would do justice to the tribute, so she was the one and only choice there ever was.Trixie stared at her foal speechless until a delighted smile appeared on her face. “And you just earned the approval of the Great and Powerful Trixie!”, the mare expressed her gratitude with the voice she always used during her performances. Moondancer’s eyes widened and he started to giggle when he realized he just got a praise from his idol and mama herself. The mare didn’t feel unsure about her skills and the final result anymore because in the end those things didn’t matter to her son. The only thing that mattered was the fact they did this together.————————-This is my contest entry for Lopoddity ‘s Pandoraverse Month of Love Art Contest I hope you like this! I really like her next gen character Moondancer’s bittersweet story and I thought I’d depict some kind of happy scene with his mother Trixie for a change ; w ;I also like to think that in this AU when Moony has grown and started to feel resentment towards her mother he contemplated on throwing away the cape but ended up only tearing away the stars because he just couldn’t get completely rid of the embodiment of one good memory he shared with his mother ;; (Let’s just assume the cape fits him even when he’s grown up xD) Commissions Twitter RedBubbleArt © Dartzu
