Ope look its another potential ship
“Alright, those are the last of ‘em!” Witch Hazel grinned, moving the last pumpkin from the cart onto her back. Fall Harvest, who had her own, smaller pumpkin nestled in between her wings, tilted her head in response to having seen Hazel’s lips move. The two stood face to face, silent, until the winged kirin realized her mistake.
“Oh, I’m sorry!” She stammered, quickly repeating herself in sign language and continuing to apologize profusely.
'No worries!' Fall signed, having grown used to being in the company of hearing ponies. 'Let’s get these to town so we can carve them, okay?'
Fall Harvest’s wings worked so fast to talk for her, that Hazel, who was still learning, took a moment before responding herself.
“Of course! I can’t wait to make some spooky jack-o-lanterns!” The mare said, using her own wings to sign at the same time as speaking. Since she had started learning to communicate with Harvest, Hazel had found it easier to talk while she translated herself, giving her time to think and sign at the same time.
With an energetic nod, the two headed down the path from Sweet Apple Acres to Ponyville Square with Fall Harvest taking the lead. The pegasus regularly looked back, making sure her friend wasn’t trying to catch her attention. When the signing began again, it was Witch Hazel who started the conversation up again.
“What are you going to put on your pumpkin?” She asked, clearly curious. This was her favorite part of the holiday, getting to decorate an area and completely transform it. And jack-o-lanterns were like icing on cake, they could make or break the night! At least, that’s how Hazel thought.
'A happy face, with a big smile and bright eyes!' The mare grinned as she gestured, as if showing exactly what she would be doing.
Witch Hazel chuckled. “A happy face? Shouldn’t they all be, er...scary?” Her wings hesitated as she momentarily forgot the word she was looking for, before remembering and rushing to finish her sentence.
To this, Harvest shook her head, still smiling. 'No! My pumpkin is excited to celebrate, not to be scary. He’s a happy pumpkin!'
Seeing that her friend had specifically spelled out “he” when referring to the pumpkin, the winged kirin raised a brow, forever amused with Harvest. “He? Does your pumpkin have a name, too?”
'G-O-U-R-D-O-N.' Fall Harvest spelled slowly, looking exceptionally proud of her own pun.
Upon repeating her letters out loud, Hazel rolled her eyes and laughed. “Oh my god, you’re the w-!” Being unable to remember the sign for ‘worst’, she attempted to fix it by replacing it with ‘silly’.
Fall Harvest let out a laugh of her own, which was less of a chuckling noise and more a handful of exhales varying in sound. It just made Witch Hazel laugh harder, because there was no giggle more contagious to her than Harvest’s. By the time the two stopped laughing, they had to take a moment from their walk to Ponyville Square to catch their breath.
“So you don’t think your jack-o-lantern should be scary?” The kirin asked as they started their stroll once again, her wings overexaggerating the sign for scary, as if she was trying to bring a spooky air to the question.
Harvest shrugged, the pumpkin on her back almost rolling far enough that it threatened to fall before she caught it with her feathers. 'If I add fangs, does that make it scary?'
“I guess I can work with that.” Witch Hazel smiled, her friend looking back to her with a cheerful grin of her own.
