Top 10 Favourite MLP FiM Characters#6: Discord

Didn’t I just say I wanted somepony a bit more reserved? Meh, whatever.

I’d never seen Star Trek before MLP Season 2. I’d never heard of Q, I’d never even heard about John De Lancie, so I went into the season opener with no idea what everyone was freaking out about. To behonest, I’m kind of glad for that. I didn’t look at Discord and see Q, I looked at Discord and saw Discord. True I did go and watch all the Q episodes from The Next Generation in the week between “Return of Harmony” Part 1 and Part 2, and I did get a new appreciation for the character and just what had gone on behind the scenes to get John De Lancie on board, but I managed to keep the two characters seperate from each other for the most part.

I’ve always loved the trickster archetype in fiction, but I especially loved it when the trickster had a point to make, when a lesson was taught because of his actions. And while Discor didn’t quite fit that bill, even after he was reformed, I did like that he was actually learning along with the main cast. It added a nice spin to the trope and I hope that even after his arc in season four (Which was one of the best parts of the season as a whole by the way) he’ll still be poking and proding at everypony with his own special brand of “friendship”.
