three familiar faces and one stranger!

Lyra and Bonbon, a pair of roommates turned lovers, have made quite the life for themselves. During the attack on Canterlot by the Storm Army, Bonbon was injured while trying to protect civilians, and was awarded the Equestrian Medal of Honor for her bravery, and a Purple Heart after being injured. These honors also come with a government stipend that allowed Bonbon to partially retire early. She worked a cushy desk job for a few years before deciding she was done working for the E.B.I, and requested that she be entered into witness protection under her code name, Bonbon, rather than her given one. At the same time, Cozy Glow and the other villains were detained and waiting for a decision to be made about what was to happen to them. Bonbon, using her seniority as a weapon, asked that Cozy Glow be placed in her care and made to join her in witness protection. Twilight LOVED this idea, and provided housing in Ponyville and private tutors for Cozy to finish school without being exposed to the public.
The first few years were tough, with Cozy recovering from a number of traumas. With lots of intensive therapy, Cozy revealed the reality of her childhood, one of severe neglect and abuse at the hands of both her birth family and foster parents. She struggled to feel safe even in the quiet home of Lyra and Bonbon, and her anger and manipulative ways were how she coped and maintained control. When Bonbon shared her own fears and traumas from a life of similar hardships, having grown up on the streets of Manehattan and a career securing the safety of the Equestrian public, Cozy felt like she wasn't alone. After this breakthrough, Cozy blossomed. She fell back in love with her special talent, chess, and began to regularly play in competitions all over. At the same time, Lyra and Bonbon decided that they wanted another child, and had Melody. Cozy LOVED melody, and the day her little sister was born was the first time she called Bonbon 'Mom', and she started calling Lyra 'Mum' soon after. Their family is a little broken and cobbled-together, and night terrors are a common occurrence, but they're happier together than they ever would be apart.
