’What have I done?’

Hearing of commotion and chaos in town, Starlight Glimmer had raced to the source to see if her ‘vengeance’ had been enacted. Yet, upon entering the scene, her breath caught in a strangled lump in her throat and her body became stiff. Before her the castle that she’d once lived in and shared with Twilight, once friend, now ‘foe’, was ablaze, seething, malicious flames of wine colored magic ravaging it. A rabble of fire brigade ponies struggled to douse the inferno of magical fire that somehow managed to set even glass and crystal alight. It seems for naught though, as the flames raged all the brighter, as if in defiance of their attempts.

In her head, ruthless vengeance had seems the perfect option, one that she had spent so many years training her daughter to enact, as she hadn’t the willpower to do so herself. Yet seeing it in front of her eyes seemed to have broken the poisonous grasp on her mind that had set in so long ago. It was as if all her hatred and resolve came crashing down at that instance as she struggled to draw breath and trembling began to wrack her form. This was her fault. All of it, not even one scrap of blame lie with anyone else. This destruction was all because of her and the realization shook Starlight to her core.

She’d made many a grave mistake and now she was being served her just desserts. She’d underestimated Gamma Ray’s power and thirst for annihilation. She’d misplaced her grief and anger at losing Sunburst. But most of all, she realized she was the betrayer in all of this and she always had been. At that moment she would have given anything to take back her mistakes, but by now it was far beyond her control. She’d learned her lesson with time magic in the past. There was nothing she could do now to set right this wrong. She could only hope that maybe, just maybe, there had been some flaw in her training, some fault in Gamma Ray’s attack, and that Twilight and Sunburst were still alive within the inferno of magical fire.

So, I get that some people really don’t like my whole thing with Starlight Glimmer going on her ‘revenge streak’. Yes, I understand it goes away from canon, especially as the seasons continue to work on strengthening bonds. But in history people have done many, many foolish things having loved and lost. Often times an idea seems far better in one’s head than in action, such is the case with Starlight’s plan to train Gamma Ray to enact her revenge on Twilight Sparkle and Sunburst. While Gamma Ray is beyond saving, Starlight isn’t, but it unfortunately took such a travesty to dissipate the cloud of pain and hate that warped her heart and mind.

Starlight has realized her mistakes, but is it too late now? Or can someone do something about the monster she’s set loose on Equestria? Or will the world burn in return for Starlight’s grave error?

(P.S. Not really looking for input on how I should structure the story. It’s mine and I enjoy angst and drama and despair.)
