“I always figured that the pegasi in the Season 5 finale would, instead of the spears used by the rest of the royal guard, use knives to maintain maneuverability. They would have these high speed aerial knife fights sort of like dogfighting.

I got the idea that maybe that’s how Dash lost her wing, she got ambushed by a group of enemy pegasi and her left wing was wounded, but being Dash, she was still able to fight the rest of them off from the ground. The wing was too badly injured to save, so it was replaced with the metal prosthetic.
