The pony that left glowing hooftracks from earlier was Nightmare Moon, talking to her walkie talkie.

Joker: (Through the Walkie talkie) "Joker to Nightmare Moon, report."

Nightmare Moon: "I got the fox just like we planned."

Joker: (Through the radio) "Good. Let us proceed Phase 2."

Then, she heard a rock been throwed by a Hedgehog.

Nightmare Moon: "Will you excuse me for a moment? We'll begin Phase 2 once I deal with tha-"

Then, without paying any attention to another rock, it knocked her down to the ground, dropping her walkie talkie.

Nightmare Moon: (Ignites her magic in anger) "WHY YOU!!!"

-Meanwhile-

Knuckles: "SONIC! Where'd he go?"

Shadow: "If we're lucky, far away."

Knuckles sighed at the way he said that.

Nightmare Moon: "Step back, you fool!"

Sonic: "AAAAAH!"

Nightmare Moon: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Then, the two sees Sonic being pushed by Nightmare Moon by her magic blast.

Shadow: "HEDGEHOG!"

Without a moment to loose, they went to go help him up until...

Knuckles: "Sonic."

Sonic: "Knuckles, no! You gotta get outta here!"

Knuckles: "What?"

Sonic: "The Nightmare, it's behind you!"

She was going to attack the Echidna until a rock, throwned by Shadow, got her attention. Then, they went on top of Cool Cool Mountain and fight her there. With Nightmare Moon knocking Shadow near a ledge, hanging for dear life, Sonic went to help him up. Knuckles meanwhile, was dealing with her until he got on the brother's attention before getting knocked out by her.

Now, with nothing to do, Knuckles became weak by that blow.

Nightmare Moon: "Now, where were we?"

Then, Knuckles uses his spear to stab the ground and breaks the ice that is under the snow.

Nightmare Moon: "What the-"

Then, after Shadow got back up by Sonic, the two saw their dear brother about to meet his maker.

Sonic: "Knuckles. KNUCKLES!"

As the ice ready to take him to his death, Nightmare Moon went down with him. Both Sonic and Shadow were watching this at silence filled the mountain.

Sonic: "Knuckles."

Nightmare Moon: "AAAAH! HEDGEHOGS!"

She got herself out of the water, shaking herself dry before getting her attention back to the two hedgehogs.

Nightmare Moon: "MARK MY WORDS, I'LL BE BACK!"

Then the two got down to look for him until...

Shadow: "Sonic!"

Sonic turned to look at Knuckles' remains: The Master Emerald.

Sonic: "No...... KNUCKLES!"

Shadow picked up the Emerald with sadness. yet, this would by the death of their dear brother.

Sonic: "Knuckles! Shadow, let's find you! Knuckles! Knuckles, where are you? KNUCKLES!"
