Two years ago I tried to make a NSFW Twilestia fanart like this twice. The first time was just a sketch, and the second one was finished, but I still wasn’t convinced with the result because back then I didn’t fully understand some tools I had in Photoshop. Then, after watching the fourth EG film, I started to like Sunset and I thought “maybe she could be great with Celestia and sci-twi”. So I didn’t want to abandon the idea. My goal with this is to make an erotic scene by using colors that makes the situation peaceful and romantic.

For those who are interested in technical details, I first put two layers, one for the occlusion in multiply mode and one for the light in normal mode (I let the screen mode for very intense white light). Then I made a pink hue/saturation layer for the atmosphere in the horizon (just a couple of brushes, nothing more) and a orange hue/saturation in 40% opacity in screen mode for the light of the sun. Finally, I put two curve layers to calibrate the light, the shadows and the colors. The rest of the process is just refining these details by using different white and black brushes, testing and balancing some colors… and obviously having fun drawing it. I pick different beach photos and movie screencaps that toyed with the colors orange, pink, magenta, purple and blue. I’m pretty sure any other artist could have got the same result in a different way.

I expected this to be finished for the next day, but I think it’s ok the way it is. I want to implement the same color palette for other shippings in future drawings, especially with Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy (I have different ideas of how they could be girlfriends and how Dashie is gonna confess, although I accept suggestions).
