“It was really nice for us to come on this picnic with your siblings and parents!” Confetti Surprise smiled at Lightning Bolt, with a picnic basket tucked beneath her wing. “It’s always fun to spend more time with the other half of my family.”

Lightning nodded. “My parents have been planning this for awhile. Planned the weather accordingly and everything,” he chuckled. “Wanted to be with the whole family, they said.”

”Looks like they planned well!” Confetti laughed. He wasn’t kidding when he said “the whole family”. Looking around, she saw his brother and sister, with their own families. Even his grandparents were there; their age couldn’t dull their enthusiasm as they chatted with their own daughter and son-in law. But what caught the pink pegasus’ eyes most of all was the two newborn unicorn fillies playing on the picnic blanket. Grinning widely, she trotted over to them and knelt down to their eye level.

”Hi Moonbow! Hi Amy! Remember me? Your Auntie Connie?”

The two babies looked up from their toys, toothless grins on their faces as they beheld the welcoming visage of their auntie. She picked them up and planted a kiss on both of their foreheads. “Aren’t you just the cutest little fillies ever!”

”I think they like you!” Paint Swirl commented. And indeed they did. Both fillies gazed with wonder up at the mare holding them, as if they were meeting Princess Celestia for the first time. Amy reached out and grabbed Confetti’s muzzle, which she didn’t object to. These babies in her arms, it just felt…right. Like this was what she was meant to be doing.

”Lightning, I want one!”

”Hm?” Lightning snapped out of whatever else he was thinking of. “What do you want?”

“A baby, silly! Look at these two!” Confetti held the fillies out to her husband. “Wouldn’t you love your own bundle of joy?”

”Yeah!” Windy Whistles added. “When are you gonna give us some great-grandfoals too?” Rainbow Dash facehoofed.

Lightning supressed the urge to groan. He knew this day was coming. She had always expressed a strong desire to have children of her own. And he wanted to start a family with her too. But after what he did…he wasn’t sure he’d be able to handle it. Still, Confetti looked as happy as could be with those foals in her arms, and he didn’t want to keep that away from her. It was worth any risk he might face.

”Of course, Connie. I’d love that.”
