Buttercup is a very active, protective pony with an eye for detail. She loves analyzing events and things and seeing how the pieces fit together. Although she was raised in Maretropolis, she would frequently visit her relatives in the country. During these visits, she became very skilled at throwing horseshoes and using a lasso. She is friendly, but not particularly outgoing.

Buttercup’s life was fairly normal, until her father was assassinated. She helped identify the killer – a deer known as Autumn who, unfortunately, had escaped. Shortly after this, Buttercup’s mom gave her something. “This belonged to your father,” she said, handing Buttercup a rope, which looked mostly ordinary, aside from its unusually bright yellow color. “Use it well.” As soon as Buttercup’s hoof touched the lasso, it glowed faintly, and she felt some kind of connection to it. It then started to move – She was controlling it with her mind! With her new powers, Buttercup vowed to avenge her father, and to prevent others from suffering loss as she had.
