Ryan/Grape Candy is a REALLY deep pull – I didn’t remember that character in the slightest lol.
Yeah, I spent awhile searching through pics of background stallions to find one that felt "right", while also hoping it'd be a fruit-related pony. Grape Candy fit the bill well enough for me.
Part of the issue is that so many background earth pony stallions seen in Ponyville are actually Apple Family adjacent, and I just didn't feel like this was the right mini-story to feature them. Still not 100% satisfied with picking Cherry Fizz, since he's just Golden Delicious with a different CM, but my options were getting limited for what felt right, and the cherry was fruit related.

If I have an opportunity, I definitely want to draw one of the stallions (Probably Matt/Goldengrape or Jacob/Cherry Fizz).
I think of the two, Goldengrape would be my vote, since his design feels more "correct"/"unique", but Cherry Fizz could always be tweaked to be more unique/distinct from GD.

Still not sure on the lore of the green, since I kind of just threw it together with what seemed silly/fun.
Mainly I'm undecided on whether it should be significant that (at least) sisters Kelly & Bailee got turned into canon character sisters who are also a pilot & drink enthusiast, respectively. (And although it's not mentioned, it's the same birth order, too.)
If I continue, it's either going to have to be a coincidence, or an important plot detail that says something about the nature of both the spell/potion and the characters.
Thank you! And I do love Goldengrape; he crops up in a lot of background scenes all throughout the first season (and onward). He never really caught on with the fandom – even compared to other background stallions – which I find unfortunate.
