The hippogriffs mastered sailing long ago and understand the dangers better than most, but even Mount Aris' seasoned navy sometimes find themselves out of their proverbial depth. Far from land, predatory creatures alien to terrestrial folk threaten boats and battleships alike. So it's for everyone's benefit that one resident of the deepest oceans is willing to help out once in a while. Despite her reclusiveness, Marinia's all too happy to show up and play bigger fish when sea monsters show themselves. Her vessel saved from the unwanted attentions of some tentacled beast, Princess Skystar happily bombards her incidental rescuer with excited questions. Why are you huge? What's with the crown? Do I know you? Weren't you friends with my mom? Answers may or may not be forthcoming - but the ship is safe, Mari's had a snack, the princess is enjoying the ride of her life. Not bad as far as first encounters go.
