It's anyone's best guess why they're here.
This was an idea that's been floating in my head for quite some time. One character type that I always found so endearing is the "dumb blonde" type, where a girl with blonde/yellow hair makes some of the weirdest comments and/or decisions. I thought it would be funny if a bunch of them would be sitting together at a table, and all of them would question why they're together. From my perspective, the answer to their question would be "Because the artist would find it funny". You can either agree with me or come up with your own answer.
For this picture, I wanted to include some of my favorite examples of the dumb blonde. From left to right, the characters are Leni Loud from The Loud House, May Kanker from Ed, Edd n Eddy, Derpy from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and Amy from Emmy the Robot. When it comes to Amy, I'm gonna be honest and say that one of the main reasons I wanted to make this artwork was because it was the perfect excuse for me to draw her. Aside from Emmy, Amy is one of my favorite Nandroids in the comic, with the main reasons being her dumb blonde humor, and her appearance (her hair looks so cute). Some might think that if I wanted to draw Amy, I could've just drawn her just posing, but I already did that with my Emmy drawing from last month, and I thought I could think of a creative situation to put her in.
When looking up dumb blonde characters I wanted to use, I was surprised to discover how limited my options were. I knew that when making this artwork, my main goal was to include characters from media I was highly familiar with. Some of the factors that played into why my search for dumb blondes was difficult was because the blonde might actually be smart (i.e. Lisa Simpson), or was from a show I didn't watch much of. I was planning on including Dee Dee from Dexter's Laboratory in the artwork, but there's an artwork I want to make next year that features her that feels more fitting.
When it comes to the background, I was initially going to have it be nothing but just a simple color. However, after I decided to give the table the four blondes are sitting at a pattern, I just had this sudden urge to make the background more vibrant than just a single color. The red lines made me think of TGI Fridays, so that inspired me to make the setting some restaurant along a beach shore, try to give it a summer vibe because the environment might as well be as bright as their hair color.
Hope you enjoyed this artwork, and considering that we've had to set our clocks an hour back since Daylight Savings Time is over, hope your day wasn't thrown out of whack too much.
