After years of mustering up the courage, Fluttershy finally decides to join in on the spooky, silly, Nightmare Night fun for once this year. So she decides to dress up as a ghost; Simple, low-maintenance, and machine-washable costume to boot!
This should appear to scaaaare you~… Unfortunately the “scare” factor may have backfired on Fluttershy… and not in a way she expected either…

There are two types of Halloween costumes; the ones you change fully into, and the ones you simply slip on overtop of everyday clothes. More often than not (or at least from my experience), if the costume is simple enough, you don’t necessarily need to do a full-on change. Since I've only really associated with these simpler types, my brain (especially my kid brain) really only ever considered “costumes”, as a concept and as a whole, as this type of non-clothing that you “throw on” and “throw off” on a whim, rather than something actually conventional or practically functioning as real clothes. Obviously, there are outliers, and admittedly, this misconception is a bit extreme, but I mention this as a tidbit of background that can be applied to this piece...
Take this thesis, and consider the hypothetical individual; blissfully ignorant, inexperienced, with precious little-to-no knowledge of how costumes are supposed to work, as a direct byproduct of initial, purposeful aversion to the whole "spooky season" thing, BUT only just now giving the festivities the good ol’e college try... To such an individual, a “ghost costume” ensemble (AKA, literally just a white bedsheet with holes cut into it) could be perceived as something that is to be considered "legitimate", as if there is no distinction to be made; forming a concept of "all costumes equal clothes, no exceptions". This erroneous notion is then adopted and put to practice, leaving the individual with a costume that substitutes for outer wear...

Now just imagine this particular individual is Fluttershy, everyone's favorite scare master.
Obviously, Fluttershy isn’t stupid or naïve per se, but I would imagine, being someone who has indeed self-sheltered from "Nightmare Night" for so long, she would be all the more prone to a misconception like this. Plus, it’s not like she can tell what her peers wear underneath their ghost costumes, right?... And if "all costumes equal clothes", then it would make sense that underwear is all you'd wear underneath... right??

And with that, you now have the proper context for this silly and pretty spontaneous idea that popped into my head for this year's Halloween post!

I'm certain that if there was any aspect of "spooky season" that Fluttershy would find endearing at all, it'd be the more lighthearted portrayal of ghosts, pumpkins and especially bats that most products and marketing tend to employ. Y'know, the fun fluffy stuff rather than the horror-oriented stuff! I wanted the design of her panties to reflect this concept; cute colorful patterns for a cute and colorful character. Too bad you weren't supposed to see them... maybe... 👻🎃🦇
