Bad End AU: Mama's watching.
To welcome the spooky season, have a spooky drawing! : D i don't remember if i said it before but Calla Lilith the middle daughter of Sombra and Fluttershy has vampirism, it isn't as strong as her mother's thanks to the experimental cures she has developed over the years, she doesn't remember how it started, she just knows that the symptoms started appearing apparently over night, her father assuring her that it must have laid dormant in her until then and that it had stayed undetected through her childhood.But here is the true story of how she got it. (TW for blood and injuries!)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Ah!” Princess Calla woke up with a soft cry. She was sweating, fur unpleasantly sticking down to her skin and making her feel hot. The filly whimpered, anxiety coursing through her and making her tremble. She’d gotten tangled up in her damp covers in her sleep, a usually comfy sensation leaving her feeling suffocated and trapped. Everything was wrong, wrong, wrong!She needed her mother.
Scrambling to escape her prison of blankets and silken sheets, Calla reached to find her beloved stuffed rabbit for comfort, Mr. Midnight. She dropped to the carpeted floor of her bedroom without a sound, blankets falling from the bed after her. Moonlight filtered in through her sheer bedroom curtains, casting just enough light for her to find her cracked bedroom door. The mostly cream-colored pegasus had to choke down a small sob as her hooves first clicked on the crystal tile of the outside hall, the panic of the forgotten nightmare still fresh on her mind.
Fluttershy would make it all better. She’d soothe Calla in her soft voice, hold her and kiss her, and wash the fear away in that motherly comfort the pegasus knew so well.
Not tonight.
A figure stalked in the darkness, hidden in the shadows. A pink tongue darted out to slick fangs glistening white. The guards may have been trained to watch for movement or suspicious activity, but these red eyes were as naturally accustomed to seeing in the dark as Nightmare Moon herself.
They darted toward the first sign of movement, eyes following a frightened filly wandering the halls. At this hour? Foolish. The creature craned their head to watch the frail child. The creamy-colored pegasus held a stuffed toy close to her chest and walked on, failing to notice what watched from the shadows of the ceiling.
Feathered wings trembled at her sides, just as much from anxiety as the cooling sweat under her fur.
Saliva dripped from the creature’s mouth and down onto the polished crystal of the floor with a faint drip. Already on edge, Calla flinched and turned around to see what had made the sound... Only to see nothing but the dark halls behind her.
“Hello?” She called in a shaky voice, waiting for a guard or someone to reveal themselves and apologize for frightening her. Silence.
Drip.
A drop of liquid fell right in front of Calla’s snout, startling her to take a surprised step back. Her gaze slowly trailed upwards from the splatter to find the source, and…
“Mama?”
The creature leapt at her, fangs bared and leathery wings flared. Calla shrieked, dropping Mr. Midnight to the floor. She had no time to run before the creature that wore her mother’s face pinned her to the floor with a firm stamp of her hoof. It panted heavily, saliva dripping onto her fur from an open maw. Fangs glinted in the faint light coming in through the windows, the sight sending a horrible chill down Calla’s spine. The filly raised a hoof in defense when the creature abruptly struck, fangs sinking into flesh.
“Mama, stop!” Calla shrieked in pain and alarm as her own mother bit her. Fluttershy jerked back, blood dripping from her teeth and smeared around her lips. Her furry ears pinned back and red eyes flashed a more familiar aqua color.“Calla..?”
She tasted the iron of her daughter’s blood in her mouth and looked down to see the crimson beginning to stain the soft fur of the filly’s leg. Her vision blurred.Small eyes squeezed shut in a wince as Fluttershy took off in a rush of wind and a sob. Before the little one could call after her, several guards and her father rushed into the hallway.
“Calla!” Sombra called in alarm upon seeing her crumpled up on the floor. He ran to her side and scooped her up in his hooves, holding his second-born close to try and soothe her. His hoof stroked through her dark mane, but her eyes were trained on the end of the hallway where her mama had fled. How could she?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fluttershy was curled up into a ball on the floor, a leathery wing stretched over her face to shield herself from the world– or rather, to shield it from her. She shivered, a whimper escaping the depths of her throat as she thought back to that night. Monster, monster... What kind of mother could hurt her own daughter? Calla didn’t seem to remember the incident, but Fluttershy could never forget.
Outside the room, Sombra rapped gently at the door. “Butterfly?” He called softly, just loud enough to be heard through the crystal. Fluttershy’s reply made him wince.
“NO! Stay away from me!” His usually soft-spoken wife screamed. “I’m a monster!”
The unicorn king had never been good with emotions, his own or anyone else’s. And how could he comfort her when she wouldn’t let him, or anyone else, come anywhere near her? He’d reassured her a hundred times now that she wasn’t a monster, she didn’t mean to, and Calla didn’t even remember anymore, that was years ago… But it never made any difference.
