Just like how their home town was. Ponies were frightened, thinking that the Windigo has followed hem across the ocean. Ponies shed much more blood over slowly narrowing land for their living. However, the Windigo has frozen every last remaining land, and the ponies who survived the Final War could not do anything else but to wait for their death inside a small cave located under Canterlot. It was then when they finally realized. Windigo did not follow them but it was them who created it. Ever since then, Windigo became the symbol of Death. Albeit, this incident cannot be seen negatively only. If Windigo is not coiming, ponies would never apologize to each other and unite into single Equestria.
