Starswirl the Bearded and the Pillars Of Equestria are left in charge of protecting the Tree of Harmony. But when Emperor Grogar sends Lord Tirek and the Dazzlings to steal Equestrian magic as well as turning every Pegasus, Earth pony and Unicorn against each other in order for the Windigos to return and bring forth everlasting winter so that every pony will freeze to death. The Pillars try to stop the Dazzlings, but Tirek defeats them by absorbing their magic while Grogar has a score to settle with Starswirl. He has the unicorn wizard pinned to the ground and Starswirl watches in horror as Tirek steals the magic of his comrades. Grogar tells Starswirl that he won’t kill him yet, but he has plans to punish him and the Pillars for imprisoning him. Tirek destroys the Tree of Harmony and Grogar laughs triumphantly.
