"I slept fitfully that night. My fingers wouldn’t stop twitch-a-twitch-a-twitchin’ on air, like they were trying to find something that wasn’t there. When I woke up the next morning, I found that I’d tied my sheets into a knot.

I managed to untangle them, and then I went to have breakfast. Sometime between starting the pancakes and finishing them, the ball of putty made its way back into my hand, which really isn’t very sanitary for cooking, but I couldn’t bring myself to care. I couldn’t help but notice, though, that the color of the batter was a little bit off, and when I ate them, the pancakes tasted like roses."
