“It’s so… polka-dotty!” Pinkie Pie gleefully exclaimed as she stood in front of the shop window. Wearing a whole new set of clothes, she turned and twirled around to catch as many angles as she could of her rotund reflection. “Ooh, and look at the balloons on the side! It’s like this outfit was made just for me!”

“I think it suits you wonderfully, even if it’s not as freeing as some of your older outfits,” Fluttershy replied with a bit of cheekiness.
\
“Yeah, well, I can’t always have my tummy out and about. Plus, I think I just like the kind of vibes these clothes give off.” Pinkie gave herself another quick spin before stopping to face her friend. “Oh, and sorry for making you drag me here. I just wish I could’ve found something like this over at the mall.”

“Oh, I didn’t mind. I’m just happy to have a friend around during the last weekend before classes start up again.”
\
“Thanks for inviting me! I had fun today.” Pinkie gave a genuine smile before changing the subject. “But I’m wondering why AJ didn’t come. You both go to the same college after all.”
\
“Oh, she didn’t have time,” Fluttershy answered, looking away briefly as she did so. “She said was busy doing chores.”
\
“What about Twilight? Or Rarity? I mean, we were practically shopping for their two respective personality traits: school supplies and cute clothes!”
\
Fluttershy bit her lip, trying to think of how to answer. “That’s true. But… hmm…” With nothing coming to mind, her eyes wandered for a moment before resting on Pinkie as she waited for a response. “Pinkie, can I be honest with you?”

“Uh, sure,” her friend nodded with a gentle yet confused smile.

“You see, I would’ve loved to have gone shopping with the others, but I was worried it might… and please don’t take this the wrong way when I say this.” Fluttershy twiddled with her fingers, feeling a little embarrassed to even explain further. “I just thought it might be a little too overwhelming right now.”
\
“Aw, don’t worry, Fluttershy,” Pinkie tried to reassure. “You can always count your friends if life ever gets too much for you.”
\
“What? No, no.” Fluttershy shook her head as she realized where the confusion was. “I meant it would be a little overwhelming for you.”
\
Pinkie was almost taken aback, tilting her head and raising a brow. “Me? Uh, why me?” She asked, though deep down in her gut, she had a feeling she knew why.
\
“Well, it’s just something I’ve noticed lately. Whenever we all get together, at your place or over the phone or online, you just seem awfully... reserved.”
\
“Oh, well…” Pinkie looked down as she turned her head away, not wanting to meet Fluttershy’s questioning glare. Suddenly, breathing in sharply, she put on a happy grin before turning back to her friend. “I mean, you know how it is, right?” She tried unconvincingly to laugh it off.
\
“Um, right.” Fluttershy stepped back, keeping a steady patience. “I do feel the same way sometimes. So I figured it’d be an easier time to talk if it was just us two for today.”
\
“Oh, yeah. Well, I’m…” Pinkie nodded, ready to say she was okay so they could move on to something else. However, as her gaze fell into Fluttershy’s own pleading eyes, she fell silent for a moment. Looking down again, she finally spoke up. “I just got a lot on my mind.”
\
“I noticed. And the others, they’re noticing too. I know you’re hearing this a lot, but if you want to talk about whatever’s going on…”
\
“Oh, no... It’s just… You guys already have some other stuff going on.” Pinkie began to explain, practically rambling as she gestured her hands around. “Some of you have college to go to, and some of you still have that weight-gain spell to deal with. So I didn’t wanna make you all worry so much about me or make time for me when you don’t have to. Plus, I got like, you know… all the time in the world. So if I wanted to hang out somewhere while everyone else is too busy, I could just go out by myself. And I would! But, I just don’t… feel like it… sometimes.” Pinkie began to slow down, almost hesitating to continue.

“Pinkie…” Fluttershy tried to chime in before Pinkie quickly found her second wind.
\
“Well, I mean, I do feel like it sometimes, but just not enough to really do anything about it. Like, I could’ve gone shopping anytime by myself if I wanted to. Then you invited me earlier and I said yes. So then I thought ‘Okay, Pinkie! You have a reason to go out today! So let’s do it! You got nothing to lose!’ So now, here I am… talking to you about… whatever’s going on.”

Pinkie breathed heavily as she tried to catch her breath. Meanwhile, Fluttershy looked on, waiting to see if there was anymore for her to say.

With a sigh, Pinkie did continue. “Fluttershy, can I be honest with you?”
\
“Of course.”
\
“You know I've been feeling kinda crummy lately, and I don't really know why. But today, this is the first time in a while I actually feel like I’m doing okay. Like, I could even look at myself in the mirror," Pinkie smiled again as she looked back at her reflection, giving one more playful twirl before turning to Fluttershy again. "And I feel good.”
\
"I'm happy to hear that. We should do this again soon, and maybe bring someone along to-"
\
“Oh! Could we take a selfie real quick?” Pinkie begged.
\
"Huh?" Surprised by the sudden request, Fluttershy found herself happily agreeing. "Yeah, I suppose." As she took out her phone, the two girls began to press up against each other. However, just as she was about to snap the picture, something randomly caught her attention. “Uh… Pinkie? Where’d you get that lollipop?”
