A sort of continuation to the ‘Team Problems’ series – more or less me saying to the naysayers (yeah, I didn’t do the obvious thing – go me) that I had other options that lost to the winners that still felt better to me than the popular matches.

These are the tree major runner ups – the three that had the potential to be. While there was potential to alter some of the other classes, these are the three that, honestly, the only thing stopping me from producing ‘out take’ Meet-the-Pony comics is the fact that they’re a pain to work on.

WHY SOLDIER PIE?

- Pinkie is hyperactive, energetic, and most of all, loud. With Pyrovision replacing explosions with confetti, her rockets would always unleash parties and fun times. Additionally, Pinkie strikes me as just nutty enough to attempt to rocket jump.

Ultimately, however, Pinkie was chosen for Engineer because the Engineer better fit what I felt was an ability to fit multiple roles as opposed to pure offense.

WHY TWIGINEER?

- Let’s face it, when it comes to brains, Twilight has them in spades. Her basement has been converted into a laboratory, she’s a master magician, and she’s a scholar to the core. The Engineer class requires planning for placement and build – every melee weapon can subtly or majorly change how you fight in entirity (mostly between the Eureka Effect, Gunslinger, and other wrenches), and with one of her most notorious abilities being teleportation, it seems extremely fitting.

What stopped this from happening was a close one, really. In the end, the Medic won out mostly because of personality similarities and being more of a ‘wizard’ type character than the Engineer, but it was pretty much a stalemate.

WHY MEDICORA?

- Zecora is the medicine zebra. While many associate her to the Demoman thinking bombs seem like alchemy, they forget that Zecora seems to particularly favor healing herbs. With her pseudo-magical potions, it’s not far fetched at all that she would be an awesome choice for the Medic.

However, I had a rule – Mane 6 take priority. As such, when Twilight took the Medic role, Zecora sort of lost out. Kind of a shame too – I almost would have enjoyed doing Meet the Medic in rhyme!
