Description:
Quote: “I am a creature of ice and snow, and in the place of the fire that other dragons have within them, I am full of the frigid, bitter cold of the Frozen North. I am anathema to Dragonkind, yet they appreciate me regardless- even if it is the intention of some of them to destroy me or just use me as a political tool for their own gain.”
Avalanche is a 48 year old dragoness who originally hails from the Frozen North, but for the last 5 hears has been gradually heading further and further south in the hope of adventure and the end of her loneliness. She is currently staying in Ponyville before she heads to Earth to explore a whole new world with her close friend, Rhys Thomas.
Physically, though diminutive, she is an adult of her species and will not grow any further. She is strong for her size, and a lot tougher and heavier than she looks. As an ice dragon, she does not have dragonflame, but instead can breathe out a jet of liquid nitrogen- capable of killing other dragons fairly easily.
As a result, Avalanche will not use it unless her life is in immediate danger, or unless she is demonstrating the ability.
This nature of hers horrifies Avalanche- and she swore that she would never use this as a weapon against another living creature again. This is to the point that she now hunts solely with her teeth and claws.
Ava is a very capable dragoness in flight, and is both quick and agile in the air, and used to hunt from altitude as she has very sharp ocular acuity, much like that of an eagle or falcon.
All along the route of her epic journey, she has been planting seeds and saplings of all kinds, to bring new life into the world. As she grew up alone in the Frozen North after her mother passed away, she has grown to adore life of all kinds- and simply couldn’t stand the barren nature of her environment any more.
Despite everything, Avalanche is friendly, affable and kind in general, though takes a very dim view of those who would wantonly pillage the natural resources of their environment, and considers them absolutely heinous. She is fairly verbose and has a slight unidentifiable lilting accent when speaking. The flower she wears tucked by her right horn is a real flower that has been enchanted to be preserved as if it was at its finest.
Her journey has been long, arduous, and solitary for much of the time, and due to her directionless route it was only when she hit the outskirts of Whinnypeg that she finally met another creature that could even talk.
Now that years have passed and friendships have been made, Avalanche, or Ava to her friends just wants to explore and see new things. The way that ponies live was a massive culture shock to Ava, and it took her a while to get over it.
Avalanche cannot sing or dance, having never learned to do either in her short upbringing, but is fascinated by it. She does intend to learn to do both whenever she can.
Then, near Ponyville, she met one of the original human immigrants by the name of Rhys, and had to deal with a whole new level of shock. Additionally, as will be touched on shortly, this chance meeting during a torrential downpour has led her to learn some new things about herself.
Being in Ponyville, Ava has finally had the chance to meet other dragons for the first time since the death of her mother, and was almost as surprised as they were to find out that she is the only Ice Dragon known to currently exist. Dragonlord Ember hurried to meet her to confirm this awful fact, but is not pressing any political agenda upon Avalanche.
Certain other, older dragons consider her an abomination that should be destroyed in order to preserve their own position, as an Ice Dragon is specifically able to destroy Fire-aligned dragons relatively easily. Ember however, after calling a conclave of Dragonkind, decreed that Avalanche was not to be harmed, and that she was under her personal protection. Any move against Avalanche would be met with exile, and physical harm would be met with brutal retaliation.
Ava is now well known in Ponyville, and has been slowly networking during her time there, building acquaintances and friendships along the way. She is particularly close to Foxglove, the Nightkin doe, and to Freya Karisdóttir, the Northlander- and through them, Rarity and Fluttershy. Foxglove has been utterly instrumental in paving the way for Avalanche in Ponyville, and could easily call her Ava’s best friend.
Avalanche has also begun building a friendship with Smolder- the fiery little dragoness finding a common spirit in her icy doppelganger- the physical similarities between them raising many more questions than answers, but they can be found together fairly regularly. Smolder has introduced Avalanche to her friends as well- Gallus in particular looking on in horror as he yelled, “THERES TWO OF THEM NOW!?”
In passing, Spike has met Avalanche as well, and though they’re not true friends yet, they do seem to get along well enough for it to be a distinct possibility in the future.
Up until Avalanche met Rhys, she had considered herself Asexual, having never had a sexual thought about any creature before- even for dragons. However, spending time with Rhys, and specifically being carried by him awakened her latent xenophilia, and she is now hopelessly attracted to the tall and handsome Welshman. This is naturally a very confusing time for Avalanche, but she is convinced that she will figure out her true feelings soon enough.
Ava likes to be physically close with those that she cares about, perhaps because she spent so long alone, so cuddles, snuggles and other close physicality is par for the course with her. She has never even been kissed at this point, but she does fully understand the principles of love, and sexual contact. Personal space is a concept that she struggles with at times, but she is slowly learning to respect other’s needs for it.
In the fullness of time, perhaps the pieces will fall into place for her, and she will be able to let go of her past, but for now, she simply cannot. In the meantime, there is a whole new world to see!
