A piece of gift art for Chaotic Mist in his story My Life in a New World.

The main character, Nick, finds Princess Luna in the dream realm, and his interaction with her doesn't have the best first start.

Adding on cutie marks has become much easier in my practice, and I was able to reuse and work in a previous crown for Luna I created in another piece for this one. The crown needed only a few adjustments, but that was no big deal. Luna's regalia around her neck turned out rather nice as well, though the pointed end is different from the rounded design she normally wears, it seems to fit better. Also, fitting her crescent moon emblem seems to pop out more with this design.

Chaotic Mist also wanted Luna to use her Royal Canterlot voice in the scene, but I had never attempted to create an effect like this before. I decided to add in some lines of white and adjust the levels on them to give the illusion of compressed air, which works to a certain degree, considering this is a dimension where air should really only be perceived to exist. That didn't seem to be enough so I added in some spacial distortion with a ripple effect to really sell it.

The space scene itself was hard to render properly with Luna's style, so I ended up blending two layers of different space scenes together, and somehow that seemed to mute the clashing levels of definition and color schemes. At the same time, that also makes it harder to see the details of the stars added into Luna's mane and tail, as well as the transparency of the out layers of her starts of hair and the glow effect. Take that as you will since it is all grossly overshadowed by the glow of her eyes.

All of that on top of Luna literally standing on a cloud of the ethereal plan, I hope this will help add some depth to his story. If not, at least you can enjoy the imagery.
