My Pinkie drawings have been few and far between, although certainly not for a lack of appreciation. She thinks the world of everyone around her and treats everyone as a friend. There’s no avoiding Pinkie’s excessive outpouring of affection after she has embraced you wholly as a peer.
Many of Pinkie Pie’s closest friends either reciprocate her own personality or are receptive to the strong emotions she has on constant display.
When you’ve got a family member, a brother, a sister, whatever, you’re damn near stuck with them. That’s just the reality of it. Unconditional love? That really should be a given, right?
What’s interesting about Maud is that she not only is Pinkie’s very own blood, she is also her literal B.S.B.F.F.! (Big Sister Best Friend Forever). She is an individual who neither reciprocates the frenetic excitement of Pinkie, nor is “visibly” receptive to strong emotions, or even displays very many for that matter.
Regardless, they have a bond that transcends differences, that transcends a seeming lack of compatibility, and even transcends the unfortunate reality that honestly, not all siblings are chummy. Not all siblings really possess a positive dichotomy with each other. I think the pie sisters are kind of a shining example when it comes to the uncommon, ideal sisterly relationship. Not just to love unconditionally, but to love the very person through the vast differences.
It’s profound and it’s refreshing. Not many shows do this. (Yea, MLP is peak media. It should be painfully obvious at this point.)
Make this the second time Maud’s appeared in my gallery. She’s not a character I go out of my way to draw, but I like her. She’s pretty neat.
