A message to my Derpibooru followers:
Hey you! The person who likes to see anthro ponies with big tits posing naked on cool cars (or by themselves) - I want to take no more than 5 minutes of your time to tell you about my recent frustrations as an artist.
Now more than ever, I need your support. Not necessarily financially: I'm not doing too bad on that front at the moment, and there are already people willing to pay me for my work. The issue is that these people are spread too far and wide in-between.
Despite what you may think or assume because of the quality of my work, I'm still relatively a small artist (less than 2,500 followers across ALL platforms). Despite what I'm capable of and my commitment to continue to improve my art over the past 4 (nearly 5) years, I'm struggling to get discovered and build the audience I need to make this viable in the long term.
I also think people may not realise you can support an artist in other ways than just giving them money, and underestimate the power and value of word of mouth recommendations. While there are countless examples of artists getting upset over people asking them to make a specific drawing for them for nothing more than exposure, that doesn't mean we don't greatly appreciate you telling others about us. Yes, paid advertising does exist, but when was the last time you intentionally clicked on any ad? Let alone the last time you discovered and followed an artist because of an ad? Are you more likely to follow an artist you like because you discovered or were told about their work naturally, or because you saw an ad for their artwork/services?
There is a lot going on right now that is affecting a lot of artists, big or small: AI art, NFTs, and Twitter having a high possibility of imploding due to Elon in particular. The odds are stacked against us, and on top of all this we typically do everything by ourselves.
If you like what I do, and you want to continue seeing my work, please consider sharing it and telling a friend who you think would also like my artwork. It's just as valuable to me as a donation, if not even more so. Thank you.
